satelite or other options in Africa?

Hi

Anyone know anything about satellites or other ways of keeping in touch from
Africa? A friend's off to Guinea Bissau, west Africa, and needs an
affordable option.

Any suggestions?

As there is no local cellular network there - you will need to fall back on
the traditional satellite services from companies such as Imarsat,
Globalstar and Iridium.

There is a land-line service, but it is very unreliable - most overseas
communication from businesses and embassies use fixed satellite.

Do note that the words satellite and affordable do not normally belong in
the same sentence.
