What is the cheapest 0800 number to set up for my home landline to be used
by my Orange.

I am looking for one with no rental or set up fees, just pay by the minute.
Looking for 5p and below.

Thanks for any suggestion

You will need to guarantee a high volume for that, otherwise they will
charge you a monthly fee as well as a by-minute rate.

This comes under *any* suggestion.

Telecomplus have an 0800 number at Ł2.35 per month - relatively reasonable -
and peak calls at 8.8p per minute, billed by the second, 7.6p off-peak,
including VAT.

Minimum call charge 2.35p.
No minimum contracts.

Depending on your total call expenditures across fixed line and mobile
phones you *could* consider mobile-to-mobile at 5p, as an alternative.

things have moved on, or you have been using the wrong service(s)
as had neither of these constraints (nor setup fee) when I got my 0800
at least 3 years ago. (I think I saw someone charging 4.95p recently)

Inweb does them for 5ppm -- descending balance with a deposit. Takes seconds
to set up. Top up the balance with your credit card.

I have recently been getting quotes for our company 0800 call centre, so
we can move away from BT's outrageously priced 0800 numbers.
A problem you might come up against is low call volume for personal use,
as I get the feeling that many 0800 carriers expect a fair call volume
to make it worth their while offering you a low cost deal of below
4-5p/min ex vat/no setup fees.

If you can register the 0800 number under a business
name (regardless of personal use) then there are
carriers that will consider your custom.

Currently, we switch customers to WorldCom @ 4.74p
plus vat with no set up fees or monthly line rental.

I'm pretty sure there are a number of resellers that offer
sub 5p rates to personal customers, but not sure who
they are.

wouldn't they still require a certain amount of call volume even if
they are business? or is there things that they can claim cause they
are business which personal people can not?

i.e don;t know now but used to be able to put computer , wap phones,
etc onto tax or something.,

No. The contract doesn't state any minimum
usage, but the carrier can withdraw the service
if there is no use after say a period of 6 months.

We have a number of 0800 numbers, and some
barely bill, but are still in use and therefore can't
be taken away.

Basically, WorldCom as a carrier only offers its
services to business customers.
