Watch out on the O2 PAYG Classic tariff. My SIM was terminated 5 months
after a chargeable event.

Reconnection and restoration of lost credit was a nightmare.

Unlike other MNO's (and its ancestor BT in particular) O2 has tended to stick to deals, so classic has carried on [so far] and O2 is the only MNO still providing EU roaming albeit with a data limitation higher than my allowance.

I still have EU roaming on Vodafone, and have recently changed my contract.
They still sell contracts with inclusive EU roaming, but also sell them
without.

Lucky you, I mean Vodafone. I just had a look on their web site. Their cheapest 12month plan (same as mine) with European roaming is nearly three times the price and one fifth of the data of my O2 SIM only contract. Indeed there is O2 deal with even more data for just 1p more - check out Uswitch.

BTW I left Vodafone after a year in 1987 when they hiked off peak calls 100%. IME losing them >£10k of revenue since - just desserts IMO for gouging.

Slight correct there are cheaper 4G only deals Voda available via Uswitch, but these are NOT shown on Vodafone's web site!

My new Vodafone contract is £19/month for 50Gb data, European roaming
(including Switzerland and the Channel Islands which many others omit) and
unlimited voice/text. I also value the fact that the Vodafone network isn’t
overloaded unlike O2’s and has rural coverage unlike Three. EE is even more
expensive in my experience.
