I just got a new phone, and for the first time it's a Nokia.

The user guide says "To insert a punctuation mark, press 1 repeatedly.

If I press 1 repeatedly all I get is lots of dots. The only way I can
enter punctuation marks via Options and Insert symbol.

What am I doing wrong? This must be so simple...

On a 6310i you just hold the */+ key down and up pop all the symbols but
you still have to use the arrow key to sroll to the one you want!

sounds like you have predictive text on. hit 1 then *+ as many times as is
necessary. This will change through the common punctuation marks.

Not hitting 1 then holding *+ for a few seconds will bring up the
punctuation menu.

At least for the 3330 :P

That happens when you have predictive text switched on.

On the Nokia 6600 I have, when you're in predictive text mode, you hold *
to bring up the symbols menu. Press # to cycle through all the input
options. If predictive text mode is off then you can tap 1 to cycle
through the punctuation marks.

Exactly! And that's exactly why people get so upset when some muppet comes
along and top-posts in that style to usenet.
