Hi

Any advice on what methods (phone/letter/fax/...?) I can close my
Orange contract on its 12 month anniversary? Also, how long before 12
month anniversary:

a) should I do it?
b) is the latest I must do it?
c) is the earliest I can do it (but still use contract up to 12
months)?

regards

Stuart

One month (notice period).

Depends. You can get a good upgrade phone like Moto V3 (negotiate hard with
Customer Relations 0800 079 2288) by renewing/changing your contract and
keep your number. You can port your number if you find a better offer with
another operator, in which case just ask for porting authorisation code
(PAC).

As I said, 11 months is the earliest. Unless you get an upgrade phone, you
can cancel any time after 12 months (giving a month's notice), and you only
pay pro-rata line rental and any call charges.

The important bit here is if you want your PAC don't ask them to close
the account, that will happen automatically when your number transfers
to the new network.

I went into an Orange shop the other day looking to upgrade my T610 to V3
and go on a new contract as my 12 month contract is finished. I waste my
time in these shops. Why are they there? All they do is look in the same
brochure as you do and tell YOU to contact Orange CS yourself????

Anyway Orange said as i'm on the T120 plan i can have the v3 for £99 but
they said i have to pay a £50 penalty charge, as I'm a low user, to
upgrade!! so it would cost me £150 to upgrade on my £25 month contract.

Apparently this is a new levy on low users. I told them to stuff it (well in
not so many words)and went to TWO O2 shops. Numpties in each shop told me a
different thing! No wonder people get confused on contracts and tarifs!

Oh and Orange also said they are willing to give me £25 off the v3 for my
T610 wow!

One O2 numpty at one O2 shop told me the v3 was free on £30 contracts and
above. Another numpty at another shop told me the v3 was £50 on contracts
£25 and above (as did the net and brochure)

The O2 contract is better as i get 100 free minutes plus a free text bundle
of 6 months

I rang Orange and told them I'm going as i've found a better deal at O2 and
explained the deal. They told me they couldn't match it so I've got my PAC
code and am going to O2. Orange have lost £50 pounds and another customer

Why do they spend overheads on all these (must be franchised) shops when the
people there are useless and the customer has to do all the dirty work? They
are just shopwindows for handsets that is all

Wracked off and confused

Stuart reckoned that...

Phone - it's the quickest and cheapest (free)

30 days before the 1-year anniversary of your date of purchase.

There is no latest.

Would only do that if they can't give you want you ask for.

Low user is defined as less than £30/month bill on 1`2 month rolling
average.

Been in force for about 4 months.

You could have had £100 minutes and 100 SMS for £25.99 on Orange. No 6-
month text bundle either.

And by not subsidising an expensive handset for a low user they have
probably in fact gained a bit, relatively speaking. Think of it as
cutting your losses.

> Why do they spend overheads on all these (must be franchised)

Orange Retail is most definitely not a franchise!
