Hy friends! :-)

I'm sorry but I can't write such a good english as I would (I'am
Italian), but I hope you can at least barely understand what I mean! ;-)

I need to write an occasional text (in Italy we call them SMS, in Uk it
should be text, shouldn't it?) to an english friend (the number is
+44.780242....: i don't know which is his provider) but with my mobile
phone it's unpossible. Can you suggest me a web site which allow to send
even only one free text, if possible without registering?

Ty!

P.S.:
I hope this is the right newsgroup to ask this, if not :-( I apologize
for this mistake and I hope you can suggest me the right one.

Hi Nico,

The best one to use is www.genie.co.uk which is now www.o2.co.uk. There's a
cool program which you can find at http://egenie.wibble.org.uk/ which will
login to the website and send the SMS with the click of a button. Very
handy. It will only SMS to the UK.

One problem is that you will need to register a UK mobile number in order to
receive the validation code to activate your account but you could give your
friend's UK number. I don't think it will disallow you to SMS "yourself".

Apart from that you could try http://sms.gt.com.ua/

Better English than many of our regular posters!

SMS is fine (= Short Messaging Service)

Have you tried http://www.lycos.it
I have sent SMS from there to UK phones in the past.
Or perhaps it is different now?

Not for free unfortunately but www.deltica.com would solve your problem.
Otherwise try www.lycos.co.uk

Gareth.

I'll try lycos.co.uk: Now I remember I should have already registered
myself there, to look after a virtual LSE stock portofolio .

Really? :-) BTW even in it.* newsgroup there are a lot of "italian" who
should repeat the elementary schools! :-)

> SMS is fine (= Short Messaging Service)

Ah, when I've been a week in England last spring when I said to a friend
"sms" he didn't understand what i meant and he told me that they called
them text... I know the meaning of SMS and infact i wondered how an
english expression could be used in Italy and not in England! By the
way, on the newspaper, reading mobile phones prices I always saw written
"text" referring to them!

Yeah? :-) Never tried, infact I tried some ten italian sites to send sms
and all of them only afford to send them towards italian numbers, so I
assumed it way a general rule. I'll tray, it's an iteresting new!

Mumble, mumble :-)
I prefer to find a simpler way, I'll tray the other url you suggest.

5 is more than sufficent for me. :-)

I'll also try this.

Thank you.

I suggest a wind simcard which has as much credit as you pay and good
prices to call abroad but I don't know about receiving... BTW I don't
know if an English can buy an Italian simcard for they ask for a fiscal
document you cannot have. In any case many phone-shop, if you ask them,
could use their own name and documents for the sim card.

I recently heard about a new service which is a add-in for MS Outlook
or Lotus Notes called Red Oxygen. You can send AND receive from your
inbox. It costs, but the advantages are stellar. Some friends of mine
just took it on. Got it from http://www.business-sms.com

Shame - we're just about to release a connector for Exchange and an Outlook
client. Except ours will be free - you'll only pay the costs of the SMS
message ( 7p ). With Red Oxygen, an Australian mob, you pay an upfront
monthly charge AND the cost of the messages ( which I can't find anywhere on
their website but I bet it's more than 7p a message......)

Cheers

Joe, will you let this NG know when this is available?

I don't think it will be considered spam as it sounds rather innovative.

I certainly will. We're actually looking for beta testers at the moment.
We'll load the beta tester accounts with a couple of hundred credits and off
they go.

I didn't make myslef very clear on the last message. Only the Exchange
connector will be loaded with 200 credits - the stand alone Outlook version
comes with 10 test credits as standard and the first release will be today
or very early next week. An exception to this is Simply Steve who e-mailed
yesterday and sounds so eager that we'll credit his account with 100 to
start with.

Kind regards
