Wonder if anyone can help me. Just got a used Jag fitted out with their
standard handfree kit (wired into sound system etc) and the phone it was
designed for is the Motorola Startac. Luckily I have managed to lay my hands
on a standard one, but although the kit initially senses it's there, it
doesn't work at all. Do you think that the authentic Jag supplied phones (at
£400 a pop!) are modified in someway? Suggestions on a way around this?
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Many thanks
Karon.

The Jaguar installed kit for the Startac is a bit more than just a hands
free, it includes a booster transceiver which gives it the power of a car
phone (8 -10 watts I think). This is designed to work on the GSM network and
I have been able to use non Jaguar GSM Startacs in this kit.
501 is the model number of the PCN version of the Startac and I assume this
is the problem. Incompatibility between a PCN handset and a GSM booster.
Thanks once again

Startac phones are not duel band, so they come as PCN for Orange and One 2
One or GSM for Voda and Cellnet.
If you find one that works on Cellnet or Voda, it should also work in the
Jaguar car kit. Model numbers on GSM ran from about 80 to 130. There was
also a 70 introduced as a PAYT phone towards the end. I would suggest the
best one to go for is a 130 if you can find one.
The 130 was the top of the range version with slim Li-ion battery,
pretty worthless now

I have been told by someone else that my model number is in fact a 130 (and
it does take standard Vodafone SIMs - so guess not a PCN. When I connect it
in the cradle the display in the stereo flashes up "phone", so it is clearly
sensing it, but then it goes completely dead - can't select, can't dial,
nothing.
Do you think I'm back to Jag having their own supplied phones modified in
some way? Think I'll call them today and see if I can weedle something out
(play helpless female!). Any other suggestions?
Best wishes

If so, it's just possible, but not likely that the car kit is for 1800MHz
instead
