So why do you think anyone here is interested. How do you think that
posting
a message in an unrelated newsgroup to the product and company will do
anything?
Orange believe they are keeping an accurate database of PAYG users
Do they realise how hard it is to remember all the fake names and addresses
we've had to give them!

Er let me see the group is called uk.telecom.mobile and this was a mobile
telecoms device bought in the UK. Just a guess, but perhaps this is the
right group to post in about it.

Well there are three things that might happen: -
1. Someone will tell him to take the phone back to ASDA for a refund.
2. Someone will tell him what to do to get it to work (e.g. take the battery
out and re-insert it; take the cling film off the SIM etc.).
3. Other group members will avoid this crap product and but something more
reliable. You wouldn't buy this as a main phone, but you might have
considered buying it for a visitor from overseas for instance.
ASDA kit is rarely pre-activated. You will need to register on
08000790006 before the phone will show any signs of life.

The futures bright, the futures Lycamoble on Orange
If the phone is not receiving signal then it requires registration
first. No text will arrive until registration is carried out.
If the phone is displaying signal immediately then it has been "pre-
activated" and is anonymous until registered, but free credit offers
usualyl are conditional on full registrtation of personal details.

they won't be able to sell it then ...
Since Orange have not insisted on full registration for about 3 years, I
doubt it.
