Has anyone had any Roamer 500's failing lately? I have two and, by some
strange coincidence, they both developed the same fault on the same day,
when out of warranty but with a while to go on the contract! I'd be
interested to hear from anyone whose instrument has also simply stopped
working.

Has anybody ever had the Motorola dual band (1800 900) phone
unlocked (Orange Charge £50 to remove the SIM lock).

And if so has anybody ever tried the phone with a Celnet or Voda Phone Sim
Card.

Thanks for any info on this ?

I have done this and it works fine for basic functions with my Voda sim.
However there are no SMS functions available (as these are partly sim-
based in the O implementation). I was quite annoyed about this at the
time, however as my main use of the phone is as a data device, and I
have another phone for speech it hasn't been as bad as I thought. I
still think O should tell you that the unlocked phone is dysfunctional
though.

I was surprised how easy the unlock was once I had managed to find
someone in O customer service who understood what I wanted. Took 2 days
to get the code though, as an "engineer" has to get it <g>.

That's a major problem, not "the only problem"!!

Out of interest, how long is the "special code" ? And how many times
can you enter it wrongly without the handset doing something bad?
(I'm thinking of using a brute force method with my Flare)

Code was 8 digits long and started with a 7 in my case ..... I entered
it wrongly once, but I guess that doesn't help you much. The techie who
gave me the number didn't mention anything about needing to be careful
though.
