"WePay prices
The new WePay top-ups are easy to understand, all-cash vouchers available in
£10, £15 and £20 denominations, with no expiry date.
5p per minute cash credit for each minute of calls received
2p per text for texts received
10p a minute to call a 3 mobile anytime
30p a minute to other networks anytime
15p a minute to landlines and non-geographic numbers anytime
10p per text to any network
25p for a picture message to any network
50p per video message to any network"
From 3's Price Guide - Previous cash Top-Up Rates
10p a minute to call a 3 mobile anytime
10p a minute to landlines numbers anytime
20p a minute to other UK Mobile Networks
10p per text to any network
25p for a picture message to any network
50p per video message to any network
So they have increased the cost of MAKING calls on Wepay by 50% compared to
the previous cash top-up prices. 15p/min to landlines and 30p/min to other
networks. So it looks like take with one hand and give a little back with
the other.
Is WePay a good deal?
You get £6.00 credit back if you receive 100 minutes of inbound calls and
receive 50 texts. OK But if you make a similar amount of outbound calls to
other networks and landlines it will have cost you 10p/min more for the
calls to x/net mobiles and 5p/min more to landlines. Split it 50/50 and that
means that you would be paying £5.00 more for calls to mobiles and £2.50 for
calls to landlines.
Total extra cost £7.50
Amount of WePay Credit £6.00
More Expensive by £1.50!!
OH and just incase anyone forgot it's a lot dearer calling a 3 mobile most
times than any other network because their interconnect fees are much
higher!!
Wonder if many will fall for this scheme? Fresh now do texts for 5p and
x/net calls for 15p to all UK landlines and mobiles. WePay looks very
expensive in comparison.
A very dangerous precedent - interesting calls to 3 are more expensive for
the caller as well.

Very dangerous and vulnerable to marketing push / abuse.
OFCOM really need to look carefully at interconnect rates and include 3 in
termination rate controls or they could be party to abuse like the above on
a huge scale.
Not only are ThreePay customers paying more to get credits through higher
outbound call charges but their friends and families are paying inflated
prices to contact their 3 phones, mostly in ignorance.
Really nasty exploitation of a privilage that was designed to reward
investment in new technology by Hutchison 3G UK. They have not made any
significant impact in the UK to date (for many obvious reasons) and this
scam will hopefully be recognised for what it really is.

No - I think that 3 are paying YOU money to receive voice calls/texts -
not charging you to receive them.

Very, very bad. This is the policy of our 3ITA and we're having a lot
of troubles thanks to this kind of autorecharge. The other networs are
changin' their policies and now we can't have any more promotion about
"free" sms e good voicecall prices because 3ITA has this aggressive
policy. Young people and other mobile-lamers actually are using the
mobile phone only for receiving and having a "incredible" balance :-/

I have never heard of a uk mobile company charging the customer for calls
received on his phone. I certainly wouldn't use it. Tesco is far cheaper
and charges only for calls made, not received.
Not at the weekend, surely?? It costs less than 4ppm to phone a 3 phone from a BT
landline at the weekend...you could make £30 by phoning the 3 phone at midnight
Friday and ending the call midnight Sunday!

Mind you it'd be spending about £113 with BT to get £144 credit which you'd probably
only be able to spend on calls from the 3 phone at those silly rates... so maybe not
such a good idea. Might be worth it with the BT CallMobile option, then it'd only
cost £85.
