I'm looking in to getting a dual sim phone and as I don't mind cheap and
bothered about brand I was thinking about this (especially as it's fully
unlocked):

While googling chinese dual sim phones I found this
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=20190
It looks like vodafone blocks them.

He may have put a 3G USIM in a 2G phone - 3 certainly cut these off.

It is very unlikely that this is because of Vodafone. The SIM standards
are written for a single phone to talk to a single SIM. Since these
SIMs can negotiate power, Voltage and communication speed and since most
modern SIMs are both SIM cards and USIM cards, I think that it is highly
unlikely any of these products will work reliably.

If you are going to try to any dual SIM product then I would recomend
that you use 2 SIMs from the same provider, intended for the same
purpose (many providers give corporates and contract customers different
SIMs from their PAYT customers)which are of the same age.

Dear Bet,

We introduced these phones in 2007 in the Netherlands and with several
thousand units sold i can tell you for sure that the dualsim principle
can work reliable irrespective of sim/usim cards, different provider
etc etc.

The problem here lies in the fact that in China a lot of phones are
produced from non official factories. These factories copy (brand)
phones as wel as their IMEI numbers. Or just give it a random IMEI
number. These phones will be blocked by some providers like Vodafone
and O2.
