I'd definitely want to do it using a cashback deal (with me in control
of the cashbacks!) So, for example, one of the consolidator sites
generates this list: <http://tinyurl.com/y9nsn7f> (or

Given that (presumably) the whole point of owning a Blackberry is having
email/web/messaging, presumably this needs building in as a
prerequisite, doesn't it? So unless you get a 'Blackberry' add-on,
you're paying through the nose for data? And if you do get a
'Blackberry' add on, whjy does that not give you internet access? As
there seem to be Blackberry tarrifs with and without internet?
God knows what's wrong with an ordinary web-enabled mobile, but
apparently it *has* to be a Blackberry. So I would greatly appreciate a
bit of 'steer' through this jungle!
Thanks

I recently took delivery of a basic "Curve". Corporate decision, so had no choice.
I hate it!
Main reason is because it's seriously crippled by the BES thing that it's on, plus I
don't have matchsticks for fingers.
If I had the choice I would have an iPhone or something similar, with touch-screen
and on a 3G network, my BB is on T-Mobile.

PIN messneger is quite useful and free, but she almost certainly want a
blackberry so she can install the facebook application.

Get the blackberry add-on for sure.

No it doesn't - a Nokia N79/97 [mini] would be better.
That said an Curve 9700 is a fine pice of kit.

So 9700 on an unlimted data tariff.
Either buy it + SIM only with unlimited data (~19pcm)
or get it free on a full tarrif (~40).
Storm 2 at a pinch.

8520.
At least when I got it I was able to amuse myself watching YouTube videos etc.
Then I was required to put a password in to put it on the BES and that has
totally crippled it. Won't play YouTube content any more, all connectivity
is via a proxy so I can't even reach recourses within my own LAN without tramboning
out and back in.
The list goes on.

You can run a Blackberry and the BIS add-on from Orange PAYG for 10/month
(unlimited internet and 300 texts).

That is your employer enforcing company policy.
I have a "work" 8900 and there are issues: -
1. Even on wi-fi it tops out at ~100kbps, whereas my personal Nokia runds at
Mbps over wi-fi or 3G. (no 3G on 8900 or 8520).
2. It can't deal with native PDF's, and the downloaded pages are low
resolution.
(Nokia handles them well).
3. GPS first fix is abysmally slow and you are network dependent for maps.
Nokia fixes from cold in 30s and uses on board maps you can download for
free (supports Google maps too). (no GPS on 8520)
