Friend gave me their old phone with a Vodaphone SIM card. They did give
me the SIM code on a piece of paper and I cleared it out and have now
forgotten the code.
The phone is an old NK702 (6130). Is there a utility that will show me
the sim code?
thanks.
ps - used logomanager and foubd phone lock code successfully

You can get the PUK code from Vodafone which will allow you to change
the SIM PIN to a number of your choice. I think there's an automated
service for obtaining a Vodafone PAYG PUK code, do a Google search to
find out more.

Also, the Nokia 6130 / nk702 is a single band GSM1800 phone so you will
not get full Vodafone coverage with that phone.

Is it just me that finds these automated service for obtaining the PUK code
annoying? Does this not circumvent the security of the user PIN code by
allowing any thief to discover your PUK code to by pass your PIN code?
Imageine the UK banks were to offer an automated service to obtain a new PIN
for your ATM/Cash-point cards!

Unless they switched it off by accident ;-) Also not all phones have the
"display own number" facility, and AFAIK only Voda has the facility to
find your number from the network (*#100#)

Or the battery dies before they can get to a recharge point.

A quick call to a phone (most probably a PAYG mobile so it cannot be traced)
will quickly identify the number of the phone in question. Or in the case of
a PAYG mobile, just call the automated top service which will very kindly
identify the phone number of the SIM you are calling from.

So is it worth enabling the power-on PIN security feature?

However most phones have the "send somebody a quick text and see the
sender's number on the phone you sent it to" facility.

Not that I think an automated PUK giver-outer is a good idea, BTW, I'm
just pointing out that it's not necessarily quite as bad as it seems.

Thanks everyone.
My friend got back from holiday and phoned me with the PIN number. So
now I can use the PAYG sim. The *#100# feature was very helpful. Saved
another call. Will back up info <grin!>
PS - What is the number I use to call Voda so that I can put the sim in
my name? Will the top up number be different?

You can't do that. Only the original owner can.

What will the number be that the original owner must call to transfer it
to me?
