Does anyone know of any sites other than o2.co.uk from where I can send
texts for free to UK mobiles?

I have posted this in this group before, but here it comes again:
On our home page http://OsbyMikro.tk there is a link to a very
reliable free SMS service. Just click the "SMS" link to the left.
It's a service of a Czech client of 1rstwap. You register and get 50
SMS/week.
You'll get a phone book, status report, 160 chr/mess, your own number
as sender.
It's mostly fast and reliable.

T-MOBILE UK
VIRGIN MOBILE T-MOBILE
VODAFONE UK
I have no personal interest in this service.

Does not work for me.
I get: Ooops,... You've got a Problem !If you were brought to this Page,
ask yourself the following questions:
Did you leave your browser idle for a long time?Are you using a Browser that
doesn't support cookies, or do you have cookies disabled?
Neither of these applies but still I only get to this page

There's some frames business going on which may be confusing things. The
real address is http://www.1rstwap.com/partners/go.to/1rstwap . But I
can't get the verification code through text message when registering,
no matter how many times I ask for it to be resent. At least not last
night. (Orange 07811 number.)

No, the frame business has to do with my making of a shorter address.
If you get the text page instead of the start page, you'll have to
make an exeption for 1rstwap.com in the security settings in your
browser.

No it's not!!!
It is NOT 1stwap's page. It's a page of a Czech client (Oskar) of
1rstwap. Swap the last 1rstwap in the address with Oskar.
You'll get 50sms/week instead of 15sms/week.
There are about 440 different pages with 1rstwap SMS-services or
1rstwap-clients (no garanties for full function). No reason for
registering at more than one page. 1rstwap uses the same database for
all client pages. 15 or 50sms/phone number, all in all.

1rstwap pages to be shown.

OK, I got that sorted, but I still have problem during the registration
where I did not get
a required SMS to my mobile despite requests for re-transmission. It may not
work with
certain networks, mine is UK Orange network.

If you want to, send an email to me with your mobile number in
international format, and I'll try to send an SMS to you from my
1rstwap account. If it comes through, there might have been temporary
problems.

I have received about 60 emails today at that very address! Seems to
be no problem on my side.
