I have two Pay & Go sim cards both operating at 25p peak, 10p off-peak
and 2p w/e. BTC are 'aligning' their tariffs from Feb 1. This actually
means they are increasing peak time calls (on my tariff) to 35p per
minute which actually represents a 40% rise!
I know a company can change its charges at any time but I hadn't
reckoned on such an increase.
Anyone else pleased with the news?
If you use your phone that much at peak times change to "talk a lot", which
is 25p for the first 3 mins, then 5p.
Or you could allways get a contract phone. 15p/min peak rate.
I know it's awful, I only use it for the weekend rates though, virgin in the
week.
Particuarly annoying as when it suited them (e.g. the new charges were lower
such as U and P&G Best Friend) there was never the possibility of changing
or alligning to the new tariff.
How convinient the new one is higher, bet they wouldn't allign if the new
one was lower.
Sam
Yeah, vote with your feet(or should that be fingers ;)...get your
phone unlocked and stick a virgin sim in for m-friday use. Just use
BTC at the week-end, to call other BTC mobiles and perhaps in the
evenings when you haven't used your virgin sim during the day. Doubt
you'll get a cheaper PAYG combo than that :)
well, you will keep going back to ur cellnet phone, as you won't have any
reception on your virgin phone when u want to make a call.

Depends where....coverage on 121/virgin is very good (!) here in Derby
but less good in rural areas.
If coverage is an issue the OP could use another PAYG sim but that
wouldn't be as cheap as Virgin. OR he could use Orange VP Virgin with
ED50 on Line 2....but he asked about PAYG.

True, but i'd sooner struggle on my one bar of reception or come off the
net\ use a desk phone.
It isn't too bad if my friends are on cellnet though.
I agree, I would go on OVP virgin if I thought it would be cheap and easy
enough (I prob wouldn't credit score ok - I did with virgin for some reason)
plus I don't want a new phone (I know it's poss without)
That is a different issue however.

Get a handsfree kit next to your PC with an arial?

I don't think the credit score for OVP VM is very hard to achieve.
Orange seem a little strange about credit, I have heard that some people
have had a nightmare getting roaming enabled or connecting new handsets, but
they connected a new Talk150 account and enabled roaming on that and my ED50
sim without doing a check or asking for a deposit, despite the fact that I
have only been an Orange customer for 5 months.
A peak rate of say 5p per call minute would increase all our usage and
thus their revenues.
Good advice to use Virgin/121 during weekdays, & BTC at weekends, but
is the 121 system widespread enough yet to ensure coverage? Voda and
BTC have been at it for far longer and they still have enough holes
between them!
A good idea, I was considering it. I have a window close by how much would I
gain by putting a windscreen style one in?
I also have a coax connection to my main tv ariel and now itv1 is on
sky......
Being a virgin customer with low priority it seems and having just 1 bar I
don't want to go to loads of expense to find no signifocant differnece.
Sam
Coverage is indeed an issue but like any network there are places where
there are no problems.....just more holes in one2one than all the other
(probably put together)
OVP virgin is a good route for those able to get credit and not minding the
direct debit
Not as good I know but for pre-pay a sim twin and Smartstep\Talkalot
(imitations of virgin but Voda and BT C) sims are an idea. They are 25ppm
for the first three mins and 5ppm after that.
Personally I choose to stick to Virgin weekday and BTC weekend.
For sim twins take a look at www.m-99.co.uk - they sometimes have sims in
stock but I don't know about prices of the sims. They are very good on
accessories though.

Where do you need coverage? Personally I don't have a problem with 121
network, but I live in Derby...if I venture into say the Peak District
things get much less reliable!
121 *are* much better than they used to be and better than Voda from a
few years back...I once suggested on here that we would be better with
1 set of masts for all the networks run by a separate company, with
competing networks using them much as happens with Gas and
Electricity...but thats a whole new thread LOL

As for orange once again I would certainly consider OVP in future, I do like
Virgin customer service though.

Certainly not a bad idea, what about the unbundling idea (like BT) that
networks would have to sell their capacity at a trade price. This would stop
all the battles about planning permission and be a good thing for everyone.
Still unlikly with the networks the way they are, in the meantime maybe
one2one would think about some more masts in the areas where there is no
coverage. I've seen no improvements. - equally unlikly
I am awear this is off of the thread topic however - maybe if it's something
people want to talk about someone should start a new thread.

If you connected after the first of october 2001 then you will already be on
the 'new' 35/10/2p tarriff.
You may also be on an older tariff such as U, Easylife, Business Pay & Go or
Pay &Go free best friend.
These will also not change.
It applies to standard Pay & Go customers (since they stopped U and all
that) that connected before the 1st October 2001 only.

Previously, BTC didn't think they were charging enough, hence the
price hike now!
35p is theft!
