Thank you everyone for the information, which basically shows that the
fingerprint sensor, when not used for fingerpint biometrics, can in some
cases be repurposed successfully.
Since I have a similar phone to the G5 above, I should be able to
re-purpose it to do something useful, like awake the homescreen.
Unfortunately, I factory wiped my Moto G7 soon after purchasing it, so I
don't seem to have the "Moto" app in the default App Drawer app.
The only app in the default App Drawer app with "Moto" in the name is:
o Motorola Notifications
But in my additional App Drawer apps, I see also:
o Moto Actions (but it doesn't do anything when I press it)
And in my additional APK backup apps, I see tons of "moto" prefixes.
o Moto <com.motorola.moto> (System, 28sdk)
o Moto Actions <com.motorola.actions> (System, 29sdk)
o Moto App Launcher <com.motorola.launcher3> (System#, 28sdk)
o Moto DemoMode System <com.motorola.demo.env> (System, 28sdk)
o Moto Display <com.motorola.motodisplay> (System, 27sdk)
o Moto Photo Editor <com.motorola.photoeditor> (System#, 26sdk)
o Moto Voice <com.motorola.motovoicelite> (System, 28sdk)
o MotoCare <com.motorola.motocare> (System, 28sdk)
o MotoCareInt <com.motorola.motocare.internal> (System, 28sdk)
o MotoNfcSetup <com.motorola.nfc> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola face unlock <com.motorola.faceunlock> (System, 26sdk)
o Motorola Face Unlock <com.motorola.faceunlocktrustagent> (System, 26sdk)
o Motorola Message Service <com.motorola.appdirectedsmsproxy> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola Modem Service <com.motorola.modemstats> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola Notiviaions <com.motorola.ccc.notification> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola Services Amain <com.motorola.ccc.mainplm> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola Settings <com.motorola.coresettingsext> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola Settings <com.motorola.carriersettingsext> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola Slpc System <com.motorola.slpc_sys> (System, 28sdk)
o Motorola Update Service <com.motorola.ccc.ota> (System, 28sdk)
o MotoSignatureApp <
com.motorola.motosignature.app> (System0, 28sdk)
There is a "Moto" & "Moto Actions" app on Aurora's Google Play scraper:
o Moto <
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.moto>
o Moto Actions <
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.actions>
Given the factory reset probably disabled the necessary app, I'll
download/install/update those two apps and try to see if one of them can
set the Moto G7 unused fingerprint reader to wake up the homescreen.
Thanks for the advice & information which, we hope, all benefit from.
