Same here. Can't logon to pop.orange.net either using Outloook or the Web
Mail interface.

Is the Orange mail system generally unreliable?

Same here too.
I can't get to it by Telnet or from the web mail system.

Is it just me, or is it still down?

Ginge raved thus:

Yep, it still seems to be down. Mail is going to it by the looks of things;
I just sent a mail to it from my work email account and didn't get a bounce
or a message back...

Yes I managed to send 2 messages to customer...@orange.co.uk so
smtp.orange.net is alive.

Suggest you guys do the same.

If we don't complain who will?

It appears to be the pop.orange.net that is dead. Outlook says...

Task '********** - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail
server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your
account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server
responded: -ERR Authentication failed'

It was also down for me, but I can now get in via the web interface.
POP3 access won't authenticate though. I got email alerts, but
couldn't get the emails!

(Message sent to Customer Services asking them to put update
information on the web site).

I've recently had a large number of virus attached mails sent to my orange
account from what appears to be italian senders, I wonder of that has
anything to do with it? Prior to that have had very little unwanted mail,
anyone else experiencing this?

Yes the web mail is working again. Got the usual automated response about
how to set up OL and OE.

Orange are already aware of the problem, there was a briefing on it this
morning.

"Our engineers are aware of the problem" is a stock reply to any
complaints emailed to OCS.

It has been, but for the last year it's been reasonably reliable for me
(except for text alerts)

Indeed, but it's an accurate description of the situation in this case.

Possibly, but it wears a bit thin when you've received the same message 20
times.
