See: http://www.o2.co.uk/o2email

I have reported to ispreview just now, I know it may seem sightly off topic, for the few which don't know; these accounts have been offered by this mobile company (with ever changing names) alongside their telecom service for many years, and older genie addresses in the past with dial-up.

All important mail server address:
- mail.o2.co.uk (or maybe) pop3.o2.co.uk (O2 Incoming mail servers)
- smtp.o2.co.uk (O2 outgoing mail server)
http://www.mail2web.com (Optional web mail) - works for u.genie

Email I've received:

Your genie.co.uk email is closing
You know your genie.co.uk email account? We're sorry to tell you we're shutting it down.

Why?
We used to give all our customers a free email account. Some people used it, but lots didn't – preferring to use other email services like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo!, instead. So, from 1 November 2013, all genie.co.uk email accounts will be closed. You won't be able to send or receive email using x...@u.genie.co.uk after this date.

What about all my emails and contacts?
It's easy to transfer your contacts and their email addresses to another account. Transferring your emails is simple too. Our O2 Gurus can show you how at www.o2.co.uk/o2email Just make sure you move them before your genie.co.uk email account closes on 1 November.

Likewise, if you use your genie.co.uk email address as your log-in for any online services like banking or shopping, you'll need to update those too.
Some customers manage their O2 account from their genie.co.uk email address. If you do too, take a look at www.o2.co.uk/myo2 where you can see your balance, check your bill and get the low down on your account any time you like with My O2.

We'll be in touch again before 1 November, just to remind you of what's happening. Until then, we hope this won't cause too much inconvenience.
All the best,
The O2 Team

Just to add (on the broadband side):

I have O2 broadband, how am I affected?

O2 Home Broadband is now part of Sky. The O2 email service is not being withdrawn for Home Broadband customers and your o2.co.uk email address will continue to be available even when you've moved to Sky although your mailbox capacity will reduce from 1GB to 20MB.

As far as I can see, you should be issued with a new @sky email address
which has a higher limit (possibly even unlimited). It's just the legacy
email sent to the O2 address which has that rather small cap.

So small that even one email might not fit in!

No wonder the smart users jumped ship as soon as $ky took over.

So they had to change their email address to something else anyway.

Why is that different to changing it to an @sky one (Murdochophobia
notwithstanding).

"It's easy she is standing right next to you" Bourne

This is how they operate - expect similar problems on billing, service
changes(!) and just about anything else.
