My phone won't display 'T-Mobile'!

I've got a Nokia 8250. With my one-2-one SIM card in it, it displays 'One 2
One' on the screen, but on my old 5146 (where the SIM came from), it
displays
'T-Mobile'. Is this because the name One 2 One is stored in the actual
phone? Seems strange to me, as it's not a phone officially designed for UK
networks - do all phones have the names of all worldwide networks stored in
them?
I'm guessing there's no way to get the 8250 to display 'T-Mobile'??

Youll get over it.

It seems that some nokias (inc 3330) don't understand operator names on the
sim and use the one stored in the phone. This is certainly true on my 3330
with Virgin, the same with T Mobile maybe?

I'm sure you'll get over it.

I don't really care to be honest, I was just wondering! I hardly ever use my
1-2-1 SIM card anyway.

The Nokia 8250 isn't a One 2 One phone. So it's likely to be standard
GSM stock, and it won't have custom SIM profile (CSP) enabled. This
means that the SIM card can't tell the phone what the network name is,
and the phone decodes the network code itself.

>Is this because the name One 2 One is stored in the actual phone?

That's right. And also in the SIM, which was updated by text message to
display 'T-Mobile' if your phone will listen.

Yes.

>I'm guessing there's no way to get the 8250 to display 'T-Mobile'??

You can purchase a data cable for it and enable CSP, or you can do
something with an operator logo. Either way, when performing a network
search on either phone, you'll see 'One 2 One'. If you want to change
that, you'll have to flash new firmware to your phone, updating the PLMN
chunk of the PPM, and recalculating the various checksums. It's probably
not worth it. The 5416 firmware won't be updated, but any future update
to the 8250 will replace 'One 2 One' with 'T-Mobile'.

I have a E/// T39m, with a Genie SIM in it, it says BTCELLNET on the telly,
can I make it say o2? Or is that not likely being as it if it had this
ability it would probably say BT Genie??

What about a One2One/T-Mobile Motorola v66 that still displays the One2One
logo? I have also placed my SIM in a Benefon Q phone, which also displays
the One2One logo and not that of T-Mobile....

If you can, borrow a Virgin SIM (you could go to a Virgin shop and see
if they have any to try in your phone to check compatibility).

If you see 'Virgin' on the display, rather than the usual 'One 2 One'
then the phone is CSP enabled. Once you know this, ask TM to send you a
SIM update to fix your network name, if that's what you want.

I actually asked T-Mobile this today when they gave me a courtesy call.

They are in the process of sending out sim updates, and it will take another
month or so at the current rate. They didn't want to flood the network doing
it all too quickly.

(apparently)

But I already have a SIM update or it wouldn't show T-Mobile on the 5146! I
got two '>pers' SMS last week.

Oh come on, this is simply because newer phones (nokias that is) will show
the WHOLE name (9 letters) when the old phone only was able to show 8.
Sounds weird, but one example of this is that on 3110, it showed RL. But on
the 6110, It really showed RadioLinja.

But operator-logos are made to be changed. Just take up a newspaper and find
a cool logo. Then send a text message (for example "LOGO NOKIA_RULES" to
number 1666666) and you will receive a new operator logo. Just find some
service in your country that provides logos. Check on the net.

if you have a CSP enabled phone then you might not have received the
network SIM update, they are doing certain batches of numbers every day to
prevent network strain. they have nearly finished but all customers have not
yet been updated.

Someone I know got the logo change thing tonight, but can't get rid of
the '>pers' text message. Everytime it's deleted it pops back up again

WHAT would I do with a t-mobile logo? I'm quite happy with my Amorphis-logo
that I have right now.

Apparently you need to get it via WAP for Erikssons, dunno if that model
supports it?
