I have tried and tried to get BT to contact me and to talk to them over the
phone, but it seems to be impossible to even find anyone who can talk to me
about ADSL. I want to install a new business line and ADSL line, but it
would appear that they are trying to avoid my business.

Does anyone know a number I can ring that actually has a real person on the
end?

Hmm, can't help you on the ADSL side but I've just done exactly the same but
with Easynet as the ADSL supplier. Call the BT Business reception on 0800
400 400 (But once they've put you through to someone, find out their name
*and* where they work as the reception is not very good with names when you
call bakc, they always seem to want to know where the person works too...).
They should be able to set you up with a business line. As to the ADSL,
you're on your own if you want BT to supply it

I just spent 3 lost hours getting in touch with BT in a vain attempt to find
out more details about different ISDN or ADSL packages, I went through at least
ten different departments and numbers. Here's is a small selection of different
numbers you can try:

resendential ISDN 0800 253 470
technical enquiries 0800 255 111
business services 0800 800 152
business services 152
Business Complaint Review Service in Oxford 0800 393 003
Sales Department in Cardiff 02920721177
after sales department 0800 777 666
another sales department 0800 800 880
broadband services 0800 253 570
residential Complaint Review Service 0800 671704
(ask for Gary Appleton or John Hardy)

One tip: Getting through the long waiting/busy lines to a knowledgable human
is often quite diffcult. If you can't get through, try the Complaint Review
Service
numbers. Even though they are officially dealing with complaints only,
you can use them also to help you put through to the different
departments more easily. You have to be persistent,
don't hesitate to bug the Complaint Review Service numbers
several times till they put you through to the department
you need to talk to. BT is still seriously under-staffed in their
different sales and customer service departments.

Good luck.

You need to talk to an ISP that is reselling BT's ADSL service, in no
particular order these are...

BTopenworld
Demon
Andrew & Arnold
Madasafish
...plus lots more

Visit http://www.adslguide.org.uk and goto the ISP's page, has pricing
laid out in a table, with contact details.

Currently you can only reliably order the ethernet versions, though
install dates are still vague and rely on the ISP asking BT ADSL
Wholesale for a date, hence why an ISP may not be able to give a date
until you commit to an order...

Telephoning BT via normal channels will not produce much
information...

http://www.adsluk.org.uk has a number for a BT ADSL ISP agnostic
helpdesk . They should be able to answer technical queries - or pose
questions here.
