I was wondering if there is anybody that can help me with this query. We
have just converted from ISDN to ADSL with BT.

We have managed to get one standalone computer connected but want to know if
there's any way to connect the rest of the network (+/- 10 computers) to
broadband. One of my IT friends said we would need an ADSL Router. Who can
we buy this from and is it in fact what we need?

Please forgive me if these questions sound stupid 'cos I'm not an expert at
IT.

Thanks in advance.

Which version of ADSL did you have installed?

USB version?
Ethernet NAT?
Ethernet NON-NAT?
Wires-only?

How have you got the standalone computer connected?

You will need either a full router (£100+) with 10+ ports or a router like
the ZyXEL 642R (thats what i have) and a 16 port switch hub.

That will work :)

Must add - that is what I would recommend. :)

When we had ISDN, the computers were connected and all are still connected
thru a 16 ports 10base-t HUB ans there's also a 24-Port 10/100Mbps Dual
Speed Stackable Ethernet Hub.

How much did the ZyXEL 642R router cost and where did u buy it from?

Thanks very much for your help.

It's Ethernet with BT business 500 plus, if that helps.

Why not just install some form ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the
machine that is connected? Check out www.btofaq.net for more information.

I've got a AD-601 from Seg.co.uk - it's got one ethernet port but that can

it's a good deal.

Dare I ask ... Which shop in Sheffield? Do you need to special order?

If this apears twice I have tried using 2 different servers to ensure it
gets out...

So is it a block of static IP's or the NAT service, if it's the NAT service
just a case of connecting your existing network to the device and making
sure the PC's are using the correct IP ranges.

If it's a block of static IP's (NON-NAT) then hang an ethernet router off
the ADSL modem on one of the static IP's and use this to provide NAT
services to your local network. Linksys do a cable/DSL router that is
suitable.
