Any recommendations of a good value ISP please?
Thanks
May I recommend EntaNet - one month minimum contract term?
My company resells (note, not affilliate of) The EntaNet broadband
service. You sign up via my company's web site, but your contract and
payments are directly to EntaNet at their standard prices. We make a
commission from them.
The sign up link is:

NewNet set up ADSL for my son in 5 working days and offer a monthly
contract (though you pay a setup fee of ~GBP48).

In most any case there's either
(a) a setup fee or
(b) an "admin" fee (for leaving within 12 months)
of at least 40+VAT
Definitely only worth using a service with 1 month contract but expect
the setup fee to be payable for any ISP. After that, it surely depends
on how much the OP is willing to spend, and whether they have any more
'specific' requirements for the service. Some would want "up to 8Mbps"
while others might want a static IP/IPs and others would want a quota
of at least 50 GB of traffic per month... Without knowing a bit more
I'd say it's quite difficult to give any suggestions that fit...
Ace Internet was one which has an initial 3 month period and then to
cancel needs 1 month's notice, with no setup fee. However, worth a
look on ADSL Guide / DSL Zone UK to see what existing users say:
<http://www.adslguide.org.uk> + <http://www.dslzoneuk.net/>
(On the subject of 'admin' fees... some others have had an 'exit' fee -
V21 used to charge 30 quid for "letting you go", though a recent post about
them suggests this has now gone up, after the takeover by Biscit)
I'm look for a 'no frills' service. The monthly transfer will be below 1Gb.
I'm really looking for the convenience of broadband with the usage pattern
of dial-up.
Take a look at Zen internet, monthly contracts and there will be a setup
fee, they have a unlimited 250 service that may suit him for Ł18 and if he
wanted more later he could upgrade.
And I don't work for them just a happy customer.
Check http://www.getbroadband-online.co.uk/ for current offers and
http://www.speedtest-online.co.uk/ for speedtest and other ASDL issues.
Hope this helps...Pappa

In which case, even if there are some 'speed' complaints about Ace
Internet, they might be worth a look, else there's the setup fee that
most ISPs charge to consider. Since it is only for 6 months, you will
not want to be hit by a 50 quid 'get out of ISP' payment at the end!
