Until I did the postcode check, I just assumed that if a street was cabled
up for CATV then broadband was available too. No such luck, can anyone
explain why this is?

It depends - You might be in a CableTime area... this cannot YET support a
cable modem AFAIK

HTH?

Broadband thru adsl comes thru your phoneline - broadband thru cable
comes thru cable..

I kow of no reason why if u can have a cable line, you cant get cable
broadband.

Not everyone with a phoneline can get adsl broadband

Not everyone with a cable line can get cable broadband

Tell that to NTL then. They put cable down my whole street several years
ago, and my neighbour has had cable tv and phone with them since then, but
according to NTL cm's aren't available here yet. That's why I went the adsl
route.

Take it easy

Our engineers are working on a way to do this [it's in feasibility].
Initial proposals look encouraging. Will try and get some news for the
monthly service update we post to the BY newsgroups.

If all the bandwidth of the specific cable is being used by television,
what are internet users going to use?

Hi - Postcode checker does not work - you have to give them 30+ minutes of
your life and speak to customer services - my postcode comes back non
broadband but after signing for adsl and seeing the 1meg announcment I
phoned to slag them for rolling out 1meg when I can't even get 512k - Been
available for over a year she said - do you want 112k, 512k, or wait a month
for 1meg (grrrrrrr)
Needless to say cable box will be returned in a number of small plastic bags
ps filling in the form to register your interest doesn't work either

Regards Jeff
