Hi

I had the pleasure?? of installing one of these for someone last night,
first time I've seen this box.

Its a potential nightmare in that theres NOTHING you can
change!............................

Does anyone know of any backdoors to more technical menus? a super user
for instance?

The punter wanted wireless set up, and it went straight for CH1. There
appears however to be nowhere to change this in case of other routers
nearby on the same channel. is it intelligent?
and does a survey and choose the quietest??????

Regards, Keith

Argh!

That doesn't sound good. I'm making the switch to Total Broadband with
the hub tomorrow - I will *not* be happy if I can't get it all
customised as per my current setup.

So you accessed the advanced tab on the Hub Manager and there were no
changes that were available to you ?

Nope, sweet bugger all of use to a techie! ................

Also the thing has a wep key on the back. Don't think that can be
changed unless theres a backdoor I could see!........... anyone got any
ideas........... I may have to go and replace D-Link g604t on friday
with one of them and I know the wireless is congested around that area

also, if youve signed up for their version of VoIP it gets an 05xxx
number, and not a geo one as is possible with Draytel etc etc

I'm sure you will stumble across the user guide sooner or later...

http://www.homehub.bt.com/html/user-guide.pdf

Which after you have read it you will realise what's been said so far
is rubbish.

I have no reason to disagree with you apart from the FACT that the User
Guide [both your pdf and my Hard Copy that came with the Home Hub] gives no
way of changing the security settings as the 'admin' log-on is 'basic'. The
is a method of changing to WPA if one is using Fusion but I'm not sure if
this applies.

Yes, I can do that and gain entry as Administrator but for the life of me, I
cannot find a page where I am able to alter the security settings.

If you do Click Home Network

Then click .Interfaces

Then click WLAN SSID HyperLink

Then click Configure Hyperlink in top right.

You should see what you want there.

A bit convoluted I admit.

Thanks for that, that is correct, by the way looks like routers have
been updated from 6.1.1.k to 6.1.1.M overnight

Mine didn't upgrade - who do I talk to ???
I did note however that changing from the default date 1/1/2000, does tell
me that I have been connected for over 2000 days which in my experience of
DSLMax is 'havin a larf'

These routers make a call back to the update server, so it should
happen by itself, just give it time. Also you need to set the time on
the router, or use a time server

Still on 6.1.1.K but it seems to working reasonably but noticeably more
flaky than the Voyager 2500V that it replaced. Far more line drops and the
like. As an amateur, the 2500V could be compared to a well built VW Golf
whereas I would compare the Home Hub to a Proton with go faster stripes.

I would have to agree, used to use netgear 834 and never used to have
line drops, however the BT hub does drop. Also I notice you can only
use the filters that come with it, my other filters are now useless. It
is something to do with this kit and nearly sent it back.

I suppose that I am lucky in having a new ADSL faceplate that does not
require filters?

Please can someone confirm is BT Total broadband comes with a fixed or
dynamic IP address?

Can you change the VOIP settings to use another provider?

Many thanks

Hmm, suppose I could use someone like no-ip.com.

Wonder if that would have any detrimental affect on VOIP...

Cheers again,

Yesterday I spent a wonderful 3 hours using the BT Broadband help to
"chat" to BT Broadband support.

What a waste of time they were.

Problem was my wireless laptop was not getting an IP address from the
BT HomeHub.
Immediately before turning on the HomeHub, the laptop was working fine
on a netgear wireless router and I had another PC connected over
ethernet to the BT hub that was working fine.

Would they read and understand what I was telling them - would they
hell.

I must have "chatted" to 5 or 6 different people, starting from scratch
each time. At the end all they could suggest was to phone the BT
Broadband 0845 support number.

After another half-hour talking to a real person it turns out the Hub
doesn't work if you aren't using the Windows zero-config software to
drive the wireless adaptor. Is this a piece of crap or what!

Agree totally about the lack of technical information. Before I ordered
the hub I phoned the support guys to ask whether you could change the
SSID & WEP key and if you could setup an ACL based on MAC addresses and
was told that it was all possible as this was a "top router".
Yes these things can be done but there doesn't seem to be any
documentation and the interface seems anything but intuitive.

All-in-all not very impressed especially with the support.

I intend to lodge an official complaint but I don't expect to get
anything other than a meely-mouthed apology.

I too tried to install a home hub today and spent 3+ hours talking to 4
people trying to fix this. It all stems from the fact that once the hub
was plug ged in, you need tio wait for the broadband and internet
lights to light up before installling the software... and the internet
software light NEVER lit up. the PCs (plural) all connected to the hub
ok (ethernet and wireless) but no amount of changing passwords or
ipconfig info etc could ecplain why the light (and the connection
itelself) failed to come on . I was told it was my fault, I needed to
contact my laptop manufacturer to change the ip settings on my laptop
(I then set up the desktop and got what constituted 'normal ip
settings but still no luck) and eventually they claimed I must have a
faulty hub and they would replace it - i suggested a line problme (I at
the end of the exchage) and asked them to checked they had actually
switched on the internet acces for me but they assured me that was
impossible as the broadband light wouldn't come on if that was the
case. I'm now waiting for my new hub but have a nasty feeling that the
hub is just fine and the fault lies eleswhere...

Not a happy chappy at the moment

Did you configure your login username (& password, if required) in
