I'm interested to know how it compares to a standard dial up modem
and whether people think it is worth the extra £5 over free modem
access.
Cheers
Ronnie
Others will have to let you know about the speed bit (I'm on the 512K
service), but without *any* hesitation *at all* I'd say it would
definitely be worth £5 a month just for the always-on aspect. It's
brilliant, that.

He won't know what UK is - let alone it being a country...

Well we'll see if his ISP does.
I get so teed of with these twits who can't even be bothered to think
before they start posting their adverts/replies...

Access speed it comparable to a 56k modem, but the fact that it is
'always on' makes a huge difference. Also, it's superb for online games
- just had a weekend playing 'Tribes 2' with pings of 20-40ms to
Barrysworld servers :-)

Salesman said I'd be getting an Ethernet-interface 3Com cable modem but
bloke across the road from me says he already received his and it's actually
made by Motorola - this worries me because the Moto entry-level device has a
USB interface or at least it appeared to when I looked at
http://www.cable-modems.org/gallery/index.htm
Joe
The 'standard' NTL cable modem is the Motorola SB4100, this has both a
USB & a Ethernet port so you should have no worries about using it via
ethernet. The 3Com modems haven't been available for a time now
(there was apparently a incompatibility problem).
Hope this puts your mind at rest..
