I use BT Broadband at home. For months I've been unable to access
certain websites. I can access them if I type the IP address directly
into the browser (IE 6) address bar, but otherwise get DNS error
messages. (The sites are OK - I can access them at work without a
problem)
An example is a software company www.netiq.com (http://69.7.179.12)
When I first contacted BT about this they blamed my browser and
suggested I used Firefox - this didn't make any difference.
Some time ago I came across a reference in a newsgroup to a proxy
server address - btcache.net with a port setting of 3128 (I think). I
used this in the connection properties and for a while everything
worked OK. This setting doesn't work anymore.
I use a bt voyager ADSL modem that I've had for a few years. I've
downloaded the drivers from the bt voyager site and reinstalled it -
this didn't make any difference
I've used the DNS server IP addresses BT gave me - this hasn't made any
difference.
I'd be grateful if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might
be.
Has anything lodged itself in your hosts file?
DNS should be assigned automatically - hard setting it manually can cause
problems.
If you go here, what does it say for your DNS server

Thanks for the message.
The DNS has been set to automatic for some time.
The information I have is as follows-
Your DNS server(s) are:
194.74.65.69 [DNS_ID=0x7dfd TTL=57 srcport=33017 Non-recursive ]
There could be more, in which case reloading the page will normally
display them.
