Do any of you know if an american Cisco 677 ADSL router will work on
Brittish ADSL? I have Nildram USB500 at the moment, and want to buy a Cisco
677 router from america as they are dirt cheap on ebay.

It states the following which seems to suggest it will work on the British
system:

Rate-adaptive DSL (Discrete Multi-Tone [DMT] Issue 2) interface, with
maximum receive data rates up to 8024 Kbps and transmit data rates up to 864
Kbps
a.. Future support for g.lite operation via software download, with a
maximum receive data rate up to 1536 Kbps and transmit data rates up to 512
Kbps.
b.. ADSL physical connection supports ATM adaptation layer 5 (AAL5)
encapsulation
c.. Support for Fast and Interleaved dual latency
d.. Trellis coding and ATM bit/byte wide alignment
e.. Autonegotiating 10BaseT or 100BaseTX Ethernet interface
f.. Local initialization/configuration through RJ-45 serial port
g.. Status LEDs indicating power/alarm, ADSL connectivity and activity,
and Ethernet connectivity and activity
h.. Utilizes Cisco EZ-DSL technology to deliver full Rate Adaptive Digital
Subscriber Line (RADSL) rates without truck roll to the premise
i.. Fully compatible with Cisco 6100 and Cisco 6200 series asymmetric
digital subscriber line access concentrators (advanced DSLAM)
Routing and Bridging Support
· IP routing (PPP over ATM and RFC 1483)

a.. Supports null-encapsulated PPP over AAL5
b.. Port Address Translation (PAT) support for conservation of registered
IP addresses
c.. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server and client support
for dynamic IP address allocation
d.. DHCP relay agent support
e.. Optional support for IP address and subnet mask assignment via IP
Control Protocol (IPCP)
f.. Support for multiple IP addresses on the Ethernet interface
g.. Multicast proxy support (IGMP Proxy) for support of video applications
h.. Transparent bridging (RFC 1483) support
i.. Managed bridge support for remote configuration and management
Configuration, Management, and Security
· Remote management with Telnet or HTML browser interface

a.. Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) support for software updates and
configuration downloads/uploads
b.. Cisco Commander user-based graphical user interface for connecting and
monitoring the DSL link
c.. RADIUS and SYSLOG support for remote status monitoring
d.. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Management Information Base
(MIB) support
e.. PPP user authentication protocol (PAP)
f.. Multilevel password protection

Officially No, but yes they do work.. (so I have heard) but only under
certain software and firmware versions.... Please wait a few days and
I will post the SW and FW level required...

My understanding is yes to 677 and 678, no to 675 and 677i

The 678's sell for more because it can work in the place of either a
675 or 677

You must enquire about postage costs before you bid. The ones that
will ship internationally are usually companies that want $85 for
shipping. Individuals usually don't want to mess on with posting
international. A friend or relative in the states can be handy here.

Hi,
I was tempted by the price too and bought one - and yes, it does work.
I'm very happy with it. It's quite stable - until after I tried to
upgrade the CBOS and ADI firmware. Now it's either unstable (will only
remain trained for 20-40 seconds) or won't train at all - depending on
the software versions.
I'm working with Peter to find the right combination. I'm going to be
away for two weeks now so unless Peter has some other way of coming up
with the answer I don;t think we can get it done soon.
My pre-upgrade 677 had CBOS 2.2.0.002 (and ADI firmware version
0x2219be04, I think that means version 2.2) and worked fine over a few
days.

I'll post full findings here once I get back and get it to work.

btw.. If there is anyone out there with a working 677 could you please
post the results of:

show int wan0
show int wan0-0
show ppp
show run
show version
show config (don;t forget to remove the user/pwd info!)

Hopefully the latest CBOS and ADI f/w will work but the physical layer
defaults have to be changed - therefore I need known working config
settings.

Thanks,
FredStandard!

The total came to $110 US including shipping, and I'm paying via paypal.com.

Once paypal.com transfers the money, it should arrive.

If anyone else wants one, I reccomend ebay.co.uk doing a search including
international results :)

Shipping came to $35US.

And again thanks for everyones posts regarding the Cisco 677 information! :D
