just a quick one, when you are new to broadband as i will be in a couple of
weeks, are you supposed to get an installation disc from ntl. can someone run
me through the installaion process??

ntl have changed it's procedures. The installation engineer will bring the
modem with him and intall it for you. There will be a disc, but you only
need it is you are using a USB connection. There will be setting up
instructions which the engineer will be able to guide you through. The top
3 lights should be green and the bottom light should be flashing before the
engineer leaves.

i think i will be connecting to ntl via the settop box not a modem? would this
be the same sort of procedure.

If you are using the CM in the STB, then you can only connect via 10baseT
Ethernet (or that is the case for mine in an ex-C&W area). No software or
disk is needed. There will be instructions to point your browser to a
certain IP address so that you can register the MAC address of the Ethernet
card in your PC/Mac and then you will need to do some rebooting of the
PC/Mac and the STB. After that the net is all yours. You would then
normally register for an NTL ISP account (form email, etc.) but that is done
using normal web pages on the Internet (to which you will have access by
then) using would browser.
