Thanks
du.
Usage will vairy widely, from the folks who use less than 1Gb a month to
those who use several Gb a day.
600mb in 3 weeks is pretty light usage.
Jc.
This isn't actually very much. It includes everything which goes up and down
your connection - not just files which you specifically download and store
on your hard disk. For example, if you watch streaming video news items on
BBCi, this all counts towards the usage.

Depends on the day, and what one views/downloads/does, of course.
If you are on a capped account then you would probably not want to
(a) listen to streaming audio from, say, www.wnua.com or
(b) download/stream films from www.cinemanow.com or
(c) view webcams from around the world

That is my usage reported by Plus.Net on a 500 k connection (I have a
second connection for business use which may get heavier usage but no
need to measure traffic, and don't bother trying :-) Peter Morgan.

I'd get some monitoring software to check, if I were you. Remember it
counts both upload and download though.

No, that is considered pretty light.
*Average* usage is apparently about 7Gb/month Extrapolating, you
wouldn't be using much more than 1/10 of the average.
Having said that, the average is obviously skewed by high users, and
the mode is (guessing) probably more like 3-5Gb/month. Which you are
still well under.
I have had a couple of individual *days* when I have used more than
you have in three weeks (and I'm on 512K too).

Same experience here ! Before switching to 1Mb/s with 1Gb included, I
monitored our usage for 4 months
and concluded that at ~30Mb p/day we would be fine, and it was, until
beginning of December.
I have several days where PlusNet now shows 60, 70 and 100Mb, which I can't
explain.
I also note that the usage display lags quite significantly, often next day
shows much higher figure then seen when switching off.
(I also use Draytek 2600, firewalls,Ad Aware and Spybot.)
The Draytek have ability to monitor the traffic, just need to find the
software.
Can you please report any further PlusNet response.
Regards,
Martin

I suppose someone could be having a determined probe/attack against your
IP address ... does your router report usage from it's LAN side or WAN side?

The Draytek firewall doesn't respond to anything, but I now have the VoIP
ports open, I but don't use them.
You are correct that some zombie bot could be sending repeated requests,
even though it gets no response.
I believe the Draytek can report the traffic both ways, but haven't look in
to it yet.

Martin

From the usage report info on AAISP, it seems the data records come from
BT at approximately 2 hourly intervals so some lag should be expected.
FWIW, on those days when my traffic has been high (around 2 GB total), I
have seen fairly linear reported levels if I've looked a few times, but
it is more important where one has a quota to work within, of course.
Plusnet response is complete denial of any problem!
I note that Plusnet service status for ADSL reports problems
(inaccuracies) with "view my usage", though 28/12/04 message states
all is resolved(!) and requests reports of any further problems.

Hi there,
They should be. However if anyone does dispute their usage, please
raise a ticket to us asking for us to check and we will do.
kind regards

The same report should be generated for the customer. As with any
reporting this can become corrupt. We will look at the actual data
generated from the RADIUS servers.

A couple of questions, for you Luke/Support...
a) did anything happen about a suggestion to keep the previous month's
reported information available (or perhaps to send it as e-mail to a
customer) ? Reason for considering it is that one can view the past
(billing) month's details up until billing day, but soon after that,
there will be all zeros shown, so miss the end of the billing month,
for example, if one is away, and there's no way to retrieve details.
b) is usage now also being monitored for business accounts (one of my
clients has an account, moved from BreathePro a while back) and I'm
sure their IT guy said there were no figures - or just bug and when
any ADSL user requests VMU it should now be showing details (I must
admit I had not seen the guy before Christmas to check again on it,
so might pop in - there'll no doubt be a bottle of something too :)
c) is there much 'lag' between use and reporting of it ? Presumably,
you are getting usage reports at intervals so how often would those
arrive (or do you poll for data) ?
Many thanks. Peter M.

If you read what it says, it does say at the bottom of the page: "The
statistics shown on this page will not include any online activity in
the last two hours – you should bear this in mind, particularly if you
are approaching the usage included with your account. Usage is
measured in amount of data downloaded and uploaded."

This idea was accepted and is currently being looked into.

Unless the account is a Plus.Net.UK account (i.e the portal login is on
www.plus.net.uk rather than www.plus.net) then the VMU figures are
available.

There can be a difference of up to 2 hours between use and it showing up
in VMU.

Thanks. That makes it clear.

Matches what I had expected. Many thanks, to you, Dave. Peter M.
