What's this 'dial through' number ? Does it work for other operators
e.g. Virgin ?

Not quite true - there is no Weekend rate now, just Daytime and Evening
irrespective of whether it is weekday or weekend @ 2p pm day, 0.5p pm eve.
All plus 6p connection charge.

Connection charge? Are you sure? I thought that was just a cable rip off.

So now making a call during the daytime at the weekend is
charged at the same rate as making a call during the daytime
in the week?

Are BT for real?

They provide a no added charge call-through service, particularly
aimed at mobile users who want to use their free minutes, rather than
pay extra calling 0845's.

Are these call-through numbers subject to frequent change, and if so, other

Correct in relation to 0845 0870 etc; two prices "daytime" and "evening"
apply 7 days/week.

For "normal geographic" numbers, weekends are free on Option 1 (the default
rental for most customers). A BT customer should get leaflet about it, or
have received one in the last week or so.

Therefore, at weekends, make calls to 0845/0870 after checking on
"saynoto0870" and find the geographic equivalent number.

( Can someone tell me which to dial for BTInternet dialup ISP services ? I
keep an old PAYG account alive as an emergency backup against broadband
failures ).

This Thread was originally about 0845 charges hence why I mentioned those
only.

08440902270 is the BTI number.

Its not the 0845 numbers that I'm worrying bout, its the ordinary calls of
an evening from 1st April
If you don't sign up for BT option 2, they will cost 1.5p per minute ie 90p
per hour, plus 6p set-up fee.

You can of course agree to a year's rolling contract with BT for free
evening calls, but this means that if any other better supplier comes along,
you have to wait for a year to change!

Worse than that - they call it a "call set-up fee", which seems like they
can extend to charging it whenever you dial a number whether or not you
actually get through. As I don't use BT for my calls I don't know if they
actually do this, but I wouldn't put it past them.

A "call" in this instance means a completed call - one
where the called party has answered. I doubt that
uncompleted ones are recorded in their billing,

If a telco were to charge a fee for uncompleted calls,
they would need to show calls of zero duration with
the set-up fee - I can't imagine any company trying
that on. Some operators used to charge for
uncompleted calls because they didn't have supervision
and couldn't tell when a call was answered, so they
started charging after a number of seconds.

Fairy nuff. Add on the call setup charge, of course!
