Yesterday very slow, today very slow too.

Used to be quite fast 400-500kbps, no changes at my end.

But look at this tracert

Tracing route to www.demon.net [194.159.254.213]

Lordy! What gives?

Its barely faster than a 56k modem. Getting very slow rates with
http://computingcentral.msn.com/topics/bandwidth/speedtest50.asp

Any other A&A ADSL users seeing this, or is it just me?

Erk.. that looks to me like A&A are either having network problems, or
have run out of bandwidth. Is it still poor now? What do A&A say?

Cheers

Still very slow, not as bad as before, but still pretty rank.

I'd have to say in defence of them that they're support has been great for
me, with the sole exception that Adrian Kennard seems to be the only person
there who has any knowledge of domain transfers, so if he's away, hard luck.

OK, I work with the Internet, I play with the internet, I live with the
internet. It's a polite way of describing myself as a geek :-)

Basically, if it's net and I don't know about it, I want to know why, and
will know about it within 24 hours...

And (poking a friend) I'd rather be an internet professional than an
internet expert ;-)

Great, it's taken BT over 2 weeks to tell me what up with my ADSL

Sorry, ADSL is not net, it's telephony. :-)

I'll quite happily start dealing with your issues. I charge £125 per hour
or part for consultancy. Please call me with your credit card details, and
I'll put you on the books.

I find it quite strange that A&A have not responded to this thread. When
enquiries for business and such have been posted they have responded quite
quickly. A little explanation wouldn't go amiss.

Its more a question of "when I am not stuck in Leeds doing 14
hour days on site for a customer" then I respond quickly !!!

Seriously, I try to follow this group and respond quickly
what ever the issues are. I am not afraid of criticism
and would rather people tell me what is wrong than go
somewhere else. We want to provide a good service.

Now, it appears that there has been some intermittent
routing problems over UUNET.

Interestingly, while most of the traceroutes we saw show
a long delay on the first hop from us to UUNET, at the
same time some traceroutes from outside showed a similar
delay on the first hop in to UUNET and no problem
on the last hop in to us (which is something I can't explain).

Obviously we have been on to UUNET rather a lot trying
to get this resolved.

I don't think it is simply a capacity issue. We have the same
bandwidth to BT as to UUNET, so any capacity issue ought to show
up on the hop in to us via BT and not on the hop out from us
to UUNET.

It is intermittent, and we are looking in to it.
