I'm new to ADSL, using Virgin.
Have tried to test speed of connection using the Speed Test at
adslguide.org.uk.
The Download part of the test works OK but I get an error on the Upload part
" Communication Fault".

I am using Zone Alarm Pro as my Firewall and I'm sure it is some setting
involving that. I've shut down ZA but still cannot get the test to complete.
Any help much appreciated.

Not too sure to be honest, but I think it uses a java applet to run the
test - have you got an up to date java engine ?

What browser are you using ?

Try this for now... it`s not as comprehensive, but it`s better than
nothing...

Found the setting needed in ZA Pro, now the speed tests at ADSLguide and
DSLreports work OK.

Thanks for your help.

I think you'll find that there's no Java engine in that upgrade! Micro$oft
had a spat with Sun MicroDollars who won their case forcing Micro$oft to
remove Java (AKA Micro$oft Virtual Engine) from all products shipped
(dateline - sometime last year). You'll need to reinstall the Java Virtual
Machine from the Sun website
http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp

Excellent.....finally a server side testing tool for the masses. We have one
but I am yet to make it display the results in a textfile within the browser.

Everyone if you are to use a speed tester please use this one and not a JAVA
applet. Probably my voice will fall on deaf ears, hey ho.

Regards

Alex

you haven't convinced me that the language running the test matters
:-)
