My old Zoneminder setup running on a Dell Pentium 3 desktop is getting
bypassed by new technology. The Dell came loaded with Windows
Millenium! It was quickly changed to Ubuntu.
I find it hard now to buy suitable dumb cameras, they all seem to only
work using 'apps', and I don't do 'apps'.
I am looking at a couple of CCTV systems, one from CPC/Farnell, the
other from Laptops Direct. The blurb days that they each have 8
channels, which is fine, but I have one camera that talks to my router
via Wifi, and then sends its signal to the desktop via the local
network. Do these DVRs allow the same to happen? It is not addressed in
the write-up, they talk about how the cameras can be viewed on your
smartphone (if you have one, of course), but not if an incoming signal
can be directed to one of the 8 channels. I have asked the question,
but the Bank Holiday weekend seems to have struck everybody dumb.
So I thought I would ask here.
The answer may well be obvious if you use them, but I don't know the
answer.

The Windows application for Sannce CCTV cameras allows IP cameras to be
added.

For that, you need it to support onvif format?

https://support.sannce.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000439983-Type-1-How-to-connect-an-IP-camera-to-the-SANNCE-DVR-

It's a cheap system from Amazon, I've installed for some folks. I'd
investigate though seeking what Open Source equivalents are out there (I
should do). With these boxed systems you have your hands tied.

There are a few folks still in the alt.security.alarms newsgroup and not
much spam.

Thanks. I don't do Windows, so that is not much help to me, but thanks
anyway. I'll still follow the link anyway, it might still help me.

I have had a response from the supplier of the System I was looking at,
and it says that an ip camera needs its own DVR, their one does not
work with them. It sounds a bit odd, but it means I will steer clear of
that system: Smart CCTV, from justopeshop, of Nottingham (their lower case font).

Now I need a response to the same question posed to CPC/Farnell about
their BLUPONT CCTV. (their upper case font).

Dana Sat, 30 Apr 2022 13:41:29 +0100, Davey <da...@example.invalid> napis'o:
I thought IP cameras could stream their video to any IP address that could
be assigned through their setup.
Maybe you coud "make" your camera using raspberry pi zeroW and their camera?
That way you could make a working system... and then make/sell it to your
neighbours also...
