For the last 7 years I've been using a Proception ProAmp310X, distributing TV, FM and DAB around the house with no problems. All aerials are outside and for the TV this points at Sandy Heath. I live in Milton Keynes (MK5) and reception has never been anything other than first class.

Last Saturday all the Freeview TVs lost reception. FM and DAB were OK although there was a high pitched whistle on FM. After trying another PSU for the amp (no change) and connecting the aerial output directly into a TV (picture was fine) I deduced a faulty distribution amp. A replacement was ordered and I've just fitted it. It has made no difference.

I've tried a 10dB attenuator (the only one I have) in the aerial lead and this has brought back BBC1 and other "main" channels to the TVs but some channels are being reported as having no signal.

I've tried re-connecting a TV directly to the aerial and BBC1/2/ITV/Ch4/5 are all OK but the following sample all have no signal or have audio/video dropouts - ITV3, Pick, Really, 4music, yesterday, 5USA Home, Spike, Quest.

I don't have any test equipment to try and help with the diagnosis. There is no engineering work going on at Sandy Heath.

Any suggestions for the next steps in the diagnosis?

(and yes, I know the FM and DAB aerials are not pointing in exactly the same direction. It's a long story)

Sandy is A group - channels in the 20's - but Com1-3 are all at the
top end of B group.

My guess is lift conditions causing RFI from Emley Moor which uses the
same channels.

Have you got a radio scanner around anywhere? I think this sounds like some
form of interference or cross modulation due to some out of band strong
signals. Whining noises could be mobile phones or dodgy power supplies on
the mains a plasma telly in the next room all sorts of stuff gives of crap
these days.

Also of course as I have just found out, cable issues can just strike
without waning making a borderline issue a very bad one.
I don't like the sound of a whine on fm. Sounds like some form of cross mod
to me.

Some years ago I was suffering from strong interference which I
reported, and along came a man with some diagnostic aerials which he
waved around.

He found the problem. A house in the next street, and in line of sight
of the broadcast aerial as seen from my house had a signal booster that
had gone wrong, and it was broadcasting out of his aerial on the roof.
When diagnostic man got it switched off, my picture came back.

Yes those were simpler times, not we have 4G and switchmode power supplies
and even the nasty digital data transmissions to contend with.
I'm sure that these little men still come out but increasingly they tend to
find nothing obvious, and suggest the amp is the cause going non linear due
to signal overload.

The high pitched whistle on FM has gone with the replacement of the distribution amp.

No change to the reception problems today. When is this lift expected to end?
