I can only hear it if there's *no* other noise in the room - and I am an
easily irritated person with very sensitive hearing! :)
I wouldn't call it "noisy" - it just makes a ticking sound. It's not
actually noisier than my PC's hard drive is. I guess it depends on how
close you are to it and the acoustic properties of the room. I have
quite a large room and it's about 8 feet away from my sitting position.

Mine has a bit of a medium pitched whirr that you can hear when close
to the machine, but I don't notice it otherwise.

It does make some noise, but I listen to the TV at a quiet volume and
it does not annoy me and I tend to get annoyed by noise. Since the
harddrive is on all the time the PVR is working it does add to the
noise, but it is a lot queiter than the noise say a video makes.
If you listen to the TV quietly you will at first notice some
increased background noise, but I have got used to it.

Are you replying to your own thread? Slight confusement.
My Humax 8000T was supplied with a 40GB Seagate HDD. It was virtually
in-audible, much quieter than a good quality VCR. I have replaced it with
another Seagate 160 GB drive. It is a 7200 RPM model and there is a slight
whine or whistle as it comes up to speed and then it is as quiet as the
original drive. I have stuck with Seagate as they may not be the cheapest
but were certainly the quietest drives around when I made my choice.

No, I'm Ed and he's ed, and the thought has struck me (notice this ed)
that perhaps we ought to start posting as something different from
each other. Say for instance ed and Ed???

Quieter than the sound of my tutting every time I use the poorly
thought out remote control.

Yes, its a great box but I cannot believe how poorly designed the
remote control is, and the menus. The thing that gets me is I want to
be able to just press okay and cancel on the remote, not have to move
to the button on the screen. You can normally use back instead of
cancel.
The menus in general are poorly thought out why do you have to move to
the time bar to go forwards a day on the EPG? Why not have buttons
assigned on the remote control and the same for moving backwards or
forwards a page.
Hopefully they will think of such things before the PVR 9000T arrives.

When I turned mine on I was waiting to be disappointed.
NO NOISE!!!
I couldnt believe it, all those scare mongers!!
My pc makes LOADS more noise, my video makes more noise. From what Id read I
was expecting it to be as noisey as my aquarium pump!
Its fab. Enjoy.
Re: Remote.
Why have we got a tacky crappy minute button for (i)"Information", a button
I use more than the others.
The menu: I too just want to press "OK" when Ive selected a recorded show in
my list to watch it, not be presented with recording details and protection.

It's the normal "features vs benefits" thing IMO.
You can get it to do lots of things from the Remote, but one only uses
a couple of sequences 95% of the time.
I suppose I could get a One For All and teach it the sequences, but
that's less from satisfactory (especially if it's not pointed in
exactly the right direction and only some of the commands get
through).
I woudl especially like to see Play and Stop be larger buttons.

Is this from your TV SCART plug? Try tuning the TV to a blank channel
and then watching the Humax.
