Er, was Teletext (Ceefax) ceased a year or two back? Surely it is
now red button?

It might be worth trying the red button, but I think the Text button always
does the same thing.

As apposed to red nose.

You know I am thinking the terrible mess they have made of ttext between
them really makes me think that they should shelve the new mode and use it
for something else and give us all back 40 column teletext that worked and
was usefull, as apposed to the current crap which nobody has managed to make
read for us blind yet, and many sighted folk say they need a magifying glass
to read.

The word "Teletext" is still sometimes used as a description of the Red
Button service. It is after all "Text on Television".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletext#Digital_teletext

Digital television introduced "digital teletext" which, despite the
previous teletext standard's digital nature, has entirely different
standards, such as MHEG-5 and Multimedia Home Platform (MHP).

After reading your post I did a few tests on a Humax Freeview box. There
was erratic behaviour yesterday when I pressed the Red button or the
Text button on channel 1, BBC1 SD. It seems to behaving normally today.

The BBC1/2 HD channels 101 and 102 respond to the red button by
displaying a blue blob labelled MENU. Pressing Blue then gives the
choice of

Red Button SD
Red Button HD
Exit to BBC One [which is BBC 1 HD]

The full text service, news, etc. is not available on the BBC HD
channels.

That's very encouraging.

Crap. It's about as encouraging as "the cheque's in the post".
Heard it so many times before. Manufacturers just tell you what you
want to hear and rarely deliver on their 'promises'.
