Just got myself a DVD recorder Tevion TDR5101. My setup is as follows:
Antenna into Freeview Box (Philips DTR200/05), RF Out of Freeview Box to RF
In on DVD Recorder. RF Out of DVD Recorder to TV.
SCART out of Freeview box to TV as labelled on box.
SCART out of Freeview box to DVD recorder SCART In.
SCART out of DVD Recorder to SCART 2 on TV.

Now when I scan for channels on DVD recorder, it doesn't pickup any of the
freeview channels.
If I turn Descrambler ON on the DVD recorder and do a re-scan, it picks up
41 channels, but all the same channel.
Anybody offer any advice on what is wrong.
TIA

Explain please? Your DVD recorder will not pick up Freeview channels
unless it is one of the few fitted with a Freeview tuner - and if that
is the case why have you got the Philips STB?

You probably understood what you meant but it needs some clarification
to we mere mortals.

My antenna is connected to freeview box to pick up freeview channels, which
it does. RF out from freeview box into DVD recorder so that I can record
freeview channels.
SCARTS connected as my previous post.
Dont know what the descrambler on the DVD recorder is supposed to do.

You should probably be recording the SCART from the Freeview box,
either that or a poor second best of recording the RF channel that the
Freeview box outputs.

Scanning for channels on the Tevion will not reveal or install any Freeview
channels as it doesn't have a Freeview tuner!

The purpose of connecting an RF feed into the machine is to be able to
record analogue channels into it, as it does have an analogue tuner.

Freeview channels will be recorded on the Tevion by selecting its AV
channel, which is the Scart feed direct from the Freeview tuner. You change
channels on the Freeview tuner to select the channel you want, and then
record your selection on the Tevion via that (making sure not to change
channels on the Freeview box until the recording is over!).

Connections seem correct. RF going to the freeview box first, a good move.

The analogue tuner (old world BBC1-CH5) inside your DVD recorder is
mostly redundant - but hopefully the scan for channels should have
picked those five up (which you could record from, if for example you
were watching at the time a digital channel fed to your TV)

The digital tuner (freeview) is a SCART signal source as far as the DVD
recorder is concerned, so in your recorder recording settings, you tell
it to record from Scart-in rather than the built-in tuner. To change
channels you have to use the remote control for your freeview box. There
is probably no way for the DVD recorder to do that.

Your freeview box may have a built-in EPG with scart record start
functionality (which might work with your recorder), or at the least you
can set identical timers on the freeview box (to select channels) and
the DVD recorder. Bit of a parlava though :-)

The 'Descrambler ON' setting should be set to OFF. That is a thing used
with satellite systems and external descramblers connected to the
recorder. Not relevant in this case.

It's an OK box just for occasional DVD recording from TV, but a better
purchase would be something with a built-in freeview tuner (or 2), DVD
recording and either a hard disk or DVD-RAM capability to chop out the
commercials. Prices are falling all the time - don't get too glued to
your ALDI bargain!!

:-)

Thanks for the info. It will only be used occasionally.

1. connect theSCART TV socket on the digital box into the SCART IN
socket on the DVD RECORDER.
2. connect the SCART OUT socket on the DVD recorder into any available
SCARTsocket on the television set.
3.connect an RF cable from the digital box directly to the TV. at this
stage your outside antenna should already be connected vis a RFlead to
the digital box .
4switch on all the appliances . use the televisioin remote control to
access the channel normally reserved for SCART appliances (the channel
normally used for VCRS. ) the channel you are looking for will have a
blue background with TEVION written on it, or a floating DVDsign on a
black background.
5. when you have found the above-mentioned channel , press the SCAN
button on the DVD recorder's remote control . This should take you to
the channel scan SETUP MENU .
6. PRESS THE DOWN ARROW ON THE dvd RECORDER REMOTE CONTROL UNTIL
descrambler IS HIGHLIGHTED (at this stage it should read off ) press
the ENTER button when DESCRAMBLER is highlighted , and select the ON
option that should appear
7.press the SETUP button to close the menu.
8.you should now be able to access the digital channels by using the
digital box's remote control (instead of the DVD recorder remote
conteol ) Because theDVD recorder and the digital box share a single
channel now , when you press the RECORD button on the DVD remote
control you will record whatever channel is selected on the digital
box.

AFTER ALL CABLES HAVE BEEN CONNECTED PROPERLY
1 switch all appliances on.
2. go to the "av channel " or the channel that is allocated to the
SCART at the back of your TV. which is regularly used for the VCR
3 you should now see a blue screen with TEVION written on it or a
floating DVD+RW sign.
4. when you see this press the TV button on the DVDremote control.
5 then press the SCAN button loccated at the botton right of the DVD
remote control
6 you should now see an option screen.
7. using the DOWN arrow to guide you , scroll down to the option
DESCRAMBLER.which should read OFF
8. NOW PRESS THE enter KEY.

9. using the DOWN arrow highlight ON and press the ENTER key again.
10. a television program should now appear in the background . if not,
try changing channel with the digital box's remote control.
1) if you get no sound /picture or you receive an UNCLEAR PICTURE
after the connections are secure, please use different SCART leads to
ensure that it was not a faulty SCART causing the failures.
2) you can now also use your TV remoter control to navigate through
the 5standard analog channels while recording off your digital box.
This means you can watch the terrestrial channels while recording off
the digital box.
3)with this setup it will be necessary for you to view the digital
channels through the DVD recordrer, so the DVD recorder must remain
either ON or on STANDBY mode.
4) remember that when using the TIMER to record through your digital
box the SOURCE must always be set to record form SCART and you must
leave digital box set to view the channel you want to record.

some DVD +rw discs that have been recorded on will not work on other
DVDplayers. IN these instances it is mostly an incompatibility
problem. if this occurs we suggest you use a normal DVD+R this will
work on any other DVD player after you have FINALISED it

this dvd recorder will allow you to convert your old VHS tapes into
DVDS. however, some VCRS are not compatible with the TDR5101. this
conclusion should not be made unless you have tried using all possible
input ports : this includes SCART , the RED,WHITE and YELLOW cables ,
and the "s-video "cable.
