Youview being “Retired”

Hi All,

For many years we have used a BT Youview box (On BT Broadband, but without
a BT TV subscription (cancelled years ago)….

We use it both to record from Freeview via the aerial, and to watch catch
up services (especially BBC iplayer).

I have just been investigating getting a new (Higher spec) BT box and read
on a forum that Youview is shutting down / closing / stopping and that IF
the newer boxes would work without a BT subscription at present, BT might
lock them down so they only work for subscribers in future.

So, to the questions…

What is the truth regarding Youview?

What if anything will change?

And if the newer BT box would be ill advised, what would be a good choice
for a replacement?
