Humax Foxsat volume control useless on HD channels

Using a Humax Foxsat HDR with a Sony Bravia, it seems the Humax's
remote volume control cannot control the volume of an HD broadcast.

Apart from using the Humax's 'TV' button to change the TV's volume (a
nuisance haveing to flip from PVR to TV every time), is there another
solution?

(I saw mention of a TV's "Auto Volume" control, but can't find
mention of this in the Bravia manual.)

Strange. I have a Humax Foxsat HDR connected to a Samsung HD TV by an
HDMI cable. The volume control on the Humax works fine on HD broadcasts.
I have just tried it on BBC HD and on Luxe TV HD (in non-Freesat mode).

Well, Googling the problem indicated that I am not on my own!
Seemed to be generally agreed that there is no way the Humax can
control the HD Dolby volume, so it has to be done by the TV on
whatever audio the Humax passes to it.

But perhaps they haven't found whatever setting you are using that
makes the difference.

What audio settings do you have on Humax and TV, Peter?

I have a Humax Foxsat HDR connected to a Sonia Bravia TV by an HDMI
cable, and the volume control on the Humax works just the same for HD
broadcast as with SD broadcasts, ie it can only reduce the sound level
that was chosen using the TV remote.

Aha. You didn't mention Dolby in your original post. I am not currently
using the Dolby output from my TV.

That's odd. With my setup, the Humax can control volume on an SD
channel, but not HD...

Seems I need to find a way to stop the TV using Dolby.

Long shot, on the Humax, try Menu > TV Settings > Dolby Digital > Off
and see if it makes a difference.

I was full of hope with that, but - sadly - it made no difference.
Humax volume control still useless on HD channel.

I guess that means the problem does not lie with Dolby...

I noticed this on a computer recently delving into the windows drivers gave
me various settings for the sub woofer signal, but I'm still playing with
it, and none of the options seems totally believable when all you want is a
normal stereo signal and what is all these move image toward centre. In my
day this was called crosstalk..:-)

Try lowering the "bass" setting to minimum instead.
