Humax Remote with on/off and volume for TV?

Every time I switch on the TV and Humax 9200T PVR, I need to juggle two
remotes. The TV's remote for on/off and volume, and the Humax remote for
the channel and its other functions. I see from Google-shopping that
there's quite a range of Humax replacement remotes. Does anybody know if
one of them can be programmed with the TV's code to control the TV's
on/off and volume?

Blimey, my cheapo Goodmans smart talk has this function, though its a
nightmare often to dfind the right remote code for the unit you have tv
wise. I cannot understand why we do not have a standard remote code fo the
different pieces of gear, not hundreds of different ones!

The Hummy's RC can be programmed to operate the TV. There's a list of what
seems like hundreds of codes in TFM. I haven't (yet) bothered but...
What I'd like is a quick way of switching the TV from direct, inbuilt,
Freeview to HDMI 13 (Hummy) - it's easy t'other way: just press Channel on
TV's RC.

As has been suggested by someone else, you could set the TV volume fairly
high and use the Humax's volume control.

That won't enable you to turn the TV on from standby, for which I would
suggest a so-called universal remote. The main issue here is whether it will
control the Humax, and/or has a 'learning' facility so that either you can
set it up for the Humax from scratch from the original remote, or, at least
add the buttons the predefined function on the new remote doesn't include.

I use the One For All URC-7960 available from Argos:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/9239841.htm or Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-For-All-URC7960-Smartcontrol/dp/B0030GDLYS/
which is a good solid job with plenty of buttons which will control up to
six appliances of any sort. You can also set it so that the volume and mute
buttons control the TV while it is switched to operate the Humax. (A feature
called "volume punch-through" which the One For All remotes have always
supported.)

It doesn't work too well at my aunt's, where the TV volume is turned up
high to cater for someone with bad hearing. If the Humax volume is
turned down for someone less deaf, or there's a quiet bit on, you can
clearly hear mains hum :-(. Do better quality SCART leads cure that?

Thanks. I've got an old Humax RT-531 remote that doesn't seem to be
programmable. Here's a pic of it that I grabbed off Ebay:
http://i.imgur.com/ga80B.jpg

Does anybody know if any or all of the more advanced remotes listed on
that page on the Humax site can control the old Humax 9200T?

'Fraid it won't. The buttons on my TV seem to be for emergency use only.
I've not noticed the lack before, so I've just spent a couple of minutes
hunting for them. They're actually around the back, three inches in from
the side, accessible from the side, but I need to put on my reading
glasses to read the tiny grey-on-black legends to figure what they all do.
It's a new TV with negligible standby current, so I'm happy to leave it in
standby.

The problem with using the PVR's volume control is that if I switch to the
TV's tuner or anything else connected to the TV, then the volume will be
at max.

That's the beastie. Interesting lack of specific models of TV - just SIAS!
Just my luck that the Sammy has a lot. I love bit about keep trying to see
which one has the most functions.
Might be more trouble than it's worth, as the only function that I'd like is
to change the input on the TV: currently 5 presses and if I programme the RC
it would be about, er, 5 presses.

OK, thanks. Since nobody's mentioned a programmable Humax remote for the
9200T, I'll assume that it doesn't exist, so I'll consider a One-for-all.

The URC-7960 button legends seem to map OK to the Humax remote:
http://i.imgur.com/CP8sr.jpg

There's also extra buttons under a sliding cover on the remote for the
9200T, and I just use two of those: the advert skipping buttons. Is it
easy to map extra functions to the URC-7960?

I notice that I can get a refurbished URC-7960 for 12 from Ebay, if I'm
happy to have just the remote on its own.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/One-For-All-URC7960-6-Function-Universal-Smartcontrol-Remote-/130766694812

I can download the manual, so I presume that nothing else of importance
would be included in the retail box?

Does your TV remote have a "Back" button?

If it does, you should be able to go back to the last input used, so if
you start on the TV tuner, you will go back to that.

It's worth downloading the 'Extended Features' manual as well - not in the
retail box in any case - for things like mode reassignment and macros (if
you want these).

The skip buttons are already conveniently assigned to the |< and >| buttons.
(I set the remote using SimpleSet 4, which gives code 1808.)

You can easily 'learn' extra functions from the original remote.

I've had to set up the Back button and -/-- as Play List and the one to the
right of the OK button (described as 'prev') as Exit. I've also set up
buttons for Add Bookmark and Bookmark List and opt+ as I use these. And
Volume 'punch through' as described in the manual. I haven't bothered with
the SmartControl.

Yes, it does but that's just goes to the previous channel (bistable). It's a
lot better than the one on the Hummy, as that needs to have the i(nfo)
pressed for Back to work, si 3 presses.
I can go back to the TV tuner from Freesat on the Hummy v. easily: if
Hummy's on, press Channel +/- on TV RC; if Hummy's off and TV's off, press a
number-key on the TV RC and the TV comes on to FV. It's going to FS that's a
bit of a bind.

Good idea. Ok, I've ordered one. I'll try blu-tacking it to the top of
the sliding cover that covers the lesser-used buttons on the Humax remote,
and I'll see how I get on with that. If I don't, I'll get a One-for-all.

I bet you'd be really popular if you used one of these in the local pub :-)

I know someone who used to work for a tv rental company. He used to
wind up their competitors by changing all their display sets to their
advert on teletext when they were not looking.
