Panasonic program pixelation problem.

I have a Panasonic Freesat Plasma tv model TX-P50G10B and a Panasonic
Freesat Blue-ray disc recorder model DMR-BS850EB, the recorder also has a
hard drive and two separate satellite inputs.
For the past few weeks both the tv and the recorder are having a problem
with just one channel, 119 ITV HD, it keeps breaking up on both sound and
vision with blocky pixelation and sound dropping out, it is unwatchable.
The signal strength and quality on all three satellite inputs is 10 strength
and 10 quality on every channel except 119 ITV HD which is 10 for strength
but 9 for quality
It is the same even on “Other Satellite” tuning.
I have rescanned both tv and recorder, no channel at all is having this
problem just 119 ITV HD, the channel 103 SD ITV is normal.
Anyone else have this problem or any idea what the cause is?

Is that "just ITV HD out of all channels" or "just ITV HD out the
channels we watch"?

I don't know if all ITV HD regions are on Astra 2G, but channels only
started moving to it in June, and other channels shuffled from Eutelsat
28A to Astra 2E around the same time, pick another channel that is on 2G
(preferably with same polarisation and similar frequency) see if you get
breakup on that too ...

Just ITV HD out of all channels, I have checked every channel on both the tv
and the recorder, 119 ITV HD is the only one that has the problem.
I'll look into what you say about the shuffle.

It's possible your dish was aimed slightly in favour of 28.5E (for
Eutelsat) rather than 28.2E (for Astra) and now all three new Astra
satellites are in position and Eutelsat has buggered off to 33.0E,
you're left with slightly weaker signals ... odd if it's really only one
channel though.

I borrowed a Humax hd 1000s freesat box from a neighbour and tried it on all
four satellite dish outputs, the channel 119 ITV HD pixelation problem does
not occur on any one of them using the Humax.
This leads me to suspect the problem is in the Panasonic equipment.

This is probably too late to be any use (but I have a TX37G10B or rather my mum now does as a cast off). The problem is that ITV HD (England and Wales) are using a newer form of Forward Error Correction that Panasonic in their infinite wisdom failed to implement in their older Freesat HD decoders. Until last week I was able to bodge around this by tuning to ITV (Scotland) (or Ulster) as they still used the older FEC method and decoded correctly. Not any more :(

It is important that anyone with kit including 5 year warrantee makes a claim ASAP since that is the only way we might get a firmware update to fix this.

Sets and PVRs with Freesat from 2009-2012 are affected. ITV, Freesat and Panasonic all blame each other. ITV are using a valid HD broadcast stream but older Panasonic equipment cannot decode it and they are unwilling to budge.

great unwashed badge engineering God, and no longer produce those excellent
talking tvs any more, or is that just a vicious rumour put about by Samsung.

Not really - apart from their intransigence about fixing a technical defect in the original design of the TVs and PVRs made between 2009-2012 because they have probably fired all the staff that knew about the internals by now.

The new badged "Panasonic" sets no longer respond to old Panasonic remote controls (or to the Panasonic setting on a Sky remote). Easy way to tell...

They cut corners by not fully implementing the HD TV broadcast specification and now that some players are using the more advanced features the sets no longer work. It didn't bother me until last week when STV moved over.

I'd appeal for anyone affected and still in warrantee to pursue this with some vigour ASAP since the window for making a claim is rapidly closing.
