Just wondering - is there an equivalent to get_iplayer for Channel4
programmes? I couldn't see anything on a google search.

That isn't the same. Get_iplayer allows me to download to the computer
and I can then watch it later in locations without an internet
connection. On Demand only screens things when there is an internet
connection at the time I choose to watch.

It is the get_iplayer style of watching that I am trying to achieve with
Channel4 programmes. Hence the word "equivalent".

Yes and I'd like a get I player that is accessible for the blind also, and
no web site should make uou turn off ad blockers simply to view the
programmes.
Most of the other broadcasters apart from the bbc, seem to use very badly
designed user intergfaces that are mouse centric, and hence blind users are
discriminated against.
They really need to all get together and adopt a standard for thes internet
player services. Surely this is not rocket science?

Nope. The only reason that an open-source script like get_iplayer works
is because iPlayer is not encrypted. Channel 4 On Demand is. In fact,
the Channel 4 chairman Lord Burns is on record as saying that the BBC
should encrypt iPlayer as a "first step towards the corporation moving
toward a subscription model".

I was listening to an interview with a Samsung bod the other day who made a
plea for some standardisation of catch up and other online services, as as
it stands, their new smart tvs with audio for menus etc, do not interface
with the apps used to control these services because they are all bespoke
and not taking into account the way the Samsung speech is used by the
system. Apparently he says the whole tv operating system for this is open
source so there should be no problem, but as I already know even when you
provide the wherewithal for accessibility, not everyone writing software
bothers to implement it.

Thanks for the info. I thought there must be an underlying problem
because 4OD (as was, now All4) wants a registration or login.

Oh well! If I can't catch up everything within the 4OD 30 days timeout,
I will have to wait for the repeats. Everything seems to be repeated if
I wait long enough, and then I *will* remember to set Series Record.
