BBC iPlayer has not been working since this morning, and I get this error
message when I try to play something:

"Precondition Failed
Precondition on the request for the URL
/iplayerstream/secure_auth/1500kbps_stb/modav/bUnknown<long string of
numbers>.mp4 evaluated to false."

Does anyone know what it means or what I can do about it? Repowering the box
and replugging the network makes no difference. The programme list is
updating with today's programmes, but if I try to play anything I get the
error message.

I am using the ADB i-CAN Easy HD 2851T "Freeview HD receiver with BBC
iPlayer".

That sounds like the pre-test for adequate line speed. Iplayer appears to be testing your internet speed. It is finding that it is less than 1.5mb/s so therefore I plater refuses to play.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds odd though because
http://www.zdnet.com/broadband-speedtest/ says I'm getting 9.8 Mb/s, but BBC
iPlayer still isn't working.

Does seem odd as I watched two programmes yesterdayvia a computer with no
issues other than slow starting and a dropout at the start.

Both are quite common even though I'm getting a good 20 meg down.
Could be a bottleneck elsewhere in the routing I guess.

No problems with iPlayer here (EH14, Balerno) using the computer or the
telly (supplied by Virgin cable, so not Freeview).

Would have a serious think about using that speedtest
It reports my speed as 29.8 Mb/s

Whilst :-
http://tenmeg.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ gives 53.82 Mb/s
and http://www.speedtest.net/ gives 64.12 Mb/s

OK those last two differ but they are in each others ball park
zdnet's is incredibly low.

This is an upto 60 Mb/s connection, but there are few contention issues
on this line and it is only 08:30 so businesses (very few in this area
anyway} are not open and using there connections yet so the higher than
rated reading is not hard to believe.

Google shows other people having the same problem. Perhaps it is
related to this:

Oh did the same person write that that wrote Bill's replies to his
complaints. IE send the fault or complaint back to the user and not give
any indication of anything being done other than a vague statement.

Seems weird, I bet some new software is in place at BBc and nobody noticed
the problems until people started to use it. Any worthwhile organisation
might be expected to roll back the update until its been sorted.

They've updated it (somewhat illiterately) to say that they have
reproduced the problem, so it appears that someone really is
investigating it.

Ah I expect they were down the local.
If its still there though it seems a long time to find the issue to me.
Surely there is a log of things?
