If I invoke the Manual Software Upgrade on my Toshiba TV set, I see a
screen that says "Searching..." for a very long time, with the dots
cycling through 1, 2 and 3 of them. The manual gives no indication of
how long this should last, it just says to "follow the onscreen
instructions", of which I see none.
How long is this supposed to take? I have certainly waited for a lot
longer than it takes to do a full auto channel re-scan. Maybe it never
resets if there is no upgrade available, it just waits until I Cancel
it.
Where is it looking for these upgrades, anyway?

Any guidance helpful. I cannot be the only person puzzled by this.

It's unlikely to find anything, except on a day when an upgrade is being
transmitted for your particular TV

Thank you, John and Andy. There is no mention of that in the manual.

I had already tried that, and my set was not listed. That means that it
is updated over the air, which s what led me to my original post.
I tried setting it to Auto Update, but that led occasionally to the
set turning itself on at 3:30 in the morning. Not appreciated. Whether
or not an update had occurred, there was no indication, just a blaring
TV that woke the wife up.
It looks as though the only way is to keep looking at the schedule.

The various unfriendly items with this Toshiba make me disinclined to
buy another of the same make. But is has better and worse things than
our Samsung, so who knows?

Mine new set has quite a lot of 'unannounced features' (aka bugs) and Nothing concrete yet from Toshiba about a fix update :-(

Note that this is some strange re-forwarding of a message I posted in
2013. How it came back from the dead, I have no idea. Google translate
says that the added words are Bulgarian:

Didn't spot that, point stands though, it looks very like Toshiba can't be ****ed updating their firmware.

Are not Toshiba in the deep financial shit these days?
I'm not surprised if they don't support old models, as they now probably
buy them in from China and have Toshiba stuck on the front.

It has been held in court that the slogan "For Today, Tomorrow and Beyond" is mere puffery and not a warranty or the basis of the bargain.

If it lasts until the day after tommorow, is that such such a big
deal?

Not old - last year's model AFAICT and bought in December.

Poor support, but not as bad as Philips who claimed a much more serious fault was 'correct operation' - costly mistake...

My Toshiba just updated its firmware to v3.19.17.2, is there anywhere I can find out what was updated in this release?

As usual, I can see no info from them. I expect they will keep their heads
down till they see if it causes issues. grin. Is this one of the Alexa
equipped ones?

I had a look at the Toshiba website, and they don't appear to publish
Release Notes. I got a hit count of zero no matter what combination of
search terms I used.

Yes there is a question on a forum but thought that was him as well, but
there were no replies.
