You can't - Sky won't supply you with subscription services in Germany (or
anywhere outside of the UK).
Gareth.

Ooh, that bit is not quite right...

That bit is true enough.
Shall I do the funny walk?
David
A bit pedantic, but they've been happily supplying the Isle of Man,
which isn't part of the UK, since they started.
What does it actually say in the contract? I can't find mine at the
moment.
Mike

I always thought - and was always told - that Isle of Man is part of the UK
but isn't part of Britain.
Gareth.
OK, we're going OT but the United Kingdom comprises Great Britain and
Northern Ireland only. The Isle of Man has the same relationship as the
Channel Islands.
Ken
No, the Isle of Man is part of the British Isles (a geographical area)
and is a British Crown Dependency, but is not part of the UK

Mike
How is that possible? The United Kingdom contains Great Britain. So, the
Isle of Man must be part of the UK if it is part of Great Britain. If it is
merely a British Crown Dependency (but not part of Great Britain), it
needn't be part of the UK.
David
No, strictly Great Britain was the main land mass but includes all the
islands which are part of Scotland, Wales and England (eg, the Hebrides,
Angelsey or the Scillies). The Isle of Man is not included.
And, just to go further OT, the "Great" refers not to political or
economical superiority, despite what tory politicians might think, but to
geographical size and a comparison with Bretagne (Brittany) in France.......

So how come the French (including the celtic Bretons) always refer to "les
Anglais" when they actually mean Brits?
> French ignorance perhaps? ;-)
Bretons are celts too.
> How do you know that they do actually mean Brits
It's obvious from context.
Notwithstanding national identities of members of the current Cabinet, I
think you will find that is the consequence of the ignorance of the British
establishment which is, largely, the English establishment. The misuse of
the term "English" as a synonym for "British" has been commonplace for a
very long time and has been adopted by other nationalities. It's not helped
by the adoption of the Union Flag by English supporters, the use of the UK
National Anthem by England at sporting occasions, the wrong title given to
the Queen (the UK never had a Queen Elizabeth the First and so shouldn't
have a Second - note the correct terminology given by all Scots to King
James the VI and I), etc etc.... And the Beeb, which should know better
with it's Reithian past and many Celtic reporters, is one of the worst
offenders.
Mind you, my experience is that when you point out this error, they're very
quick to apologise at the unintended offence - much more so than those who
should know better.

Apologies - this should have read "....when you point this error out to
foreigners...."
Ken
Er, yes they will. As attested to by the many notes in this newsgroup
complaining about subscription charges in the Republic of Ireland.

Have you *looked* at the upper reaches of the Government, the media etc
recently?
Ken
It will answer nothing.

It's not that you're wicked or naturally bad.
It's knowing you're foreign that's driving you mad. (Flanders and Swan)
Keith
BBC Northern Ireland actually, but I think that the BBC has never used
the term 'BBC England' (on-screen at least) is because the 'nations' do
not use their own continuity 100% of the time, and need a generic 'BBC
ONE' to be used on these occasions. This was more true in the past than
it is now.

And what's this "UK mainland only" that keeps appearing in the small
print of adverts?
