I can't find their OS maps anymore. It's a damned nuisance. Does anyone
know what's up? And anywhere else on the internet I can look at OS maps,
apart from Gridfinder which is clumsy?

You probably switched to the preview version.
To get back to the old one clear your cookies or:
Open http://www.bing.com/maps/
wait for the page to load completely, at the bottom right you will see
a panel with options: Exit, Feedback and Tips, click exit, fill in the
survey form and you will return to old version with street, OS and so
on available.

Two different scales of OS map but you may have to zoom out a step or
two to see them.

You use Bing?
I hate that place and the name.
I'm surprised the estate of Bing Crosby has not sued the pants of
Microsoft. I suppose it will change its name to that stupid personal
assistant soon. What was it curtana, or sultana or sultana or whatever..

That's pretty good Charles. By pressing f11 and messing with the
settings I can get a reasonable area on the screen. (I could get a
bigger area with Multimap though; spread it across two screens)

Yes you were right, but switching to the old version offers 'Road' or
'Automatic' maps. No OS.

Yer mustav broakit, it offers Road, London Street, OS and Automatic

Did you clear any bing cookies and restart the browser?

I always remember when Bing Crosby was a studio guest on the ITV
racing programme and, by a fluke, a horse called Uncle Bing was
running in a race, so a lackey was sent to the nearest bookie to put a
bet on for him.

Did it win? Of course!

That's very good! Pity the large scale OS is rather low res.

Not so magic, here is what I see; on the left is the map view and on
the right is a downloaded pdf map of ancient woodlands in my locality.

Hmm, I suppose one can learn to use magic, but it seems a very
complicated interface to me.

I still prefer streetmap.co.uk for most things as it does have O/S maps
at 1:25k and 1:50k as well as street layouts at two scales. Bill: it
has a "map size" option at the bottom right beneath the map itself with
two options of size, that may help you get what you want.

But a factor of interest to me is how up-to-date the maps are. I just
checked out M1 J10a where, over the last 2 years, one large roundabout
has been changed to a fly-over plus two small ones. All the O/S maps
from all websites that I can find have failed to record this change,
though the Council's plans have been available for at least a couple of
years. Full marks here to Google Maps, which showed the road layout
correctly almost as soon as it opened to traffic.

Community efforts tend to be bang up to date too:

Yes I finally found that!

Yes, Google maps got the N Yorks A1(M) updated a while back, while the
OS was still wrong in a few places.

The new version has Streetside, their equivalent of Google

Yes that's working for me now.
