Yes. I got mine at Smiths, paid cash but I had to fill in a form asking for
my address but I gave them a false address and walked out with the box under
my arm. You have to phone On to activate it but again I gave them a false
address (just make sure you supply a valid post code). The drawback to this
is that when they start sending out letters and copies of their TV guide to
that address they might get returned and your card might get cancelled.
Dixons have become wise to the false address scam, and my branch at least
asked for proof of ID.
I bought mine from a small independent retailer. No agreement or
anything. Just cash in hand. Argos refused to sell me one on the basis
of ONDs rubbish reception info. They also wanted 2 forms of ID.
The indies are more likely to be aware of reception, being in the area
in the first place. I dunno about pir8 cards and things though, and
didn't ask.
