Has anyone got a Sony RDR-HX900 or Sony RDR-HX1000 DVD + HDD Recorders, if
so what do you think of them.
Thx

Funny enough I've just posted a similiar response on the same item (HX900)
over at home-cinema group... as no response so far would be interested in
any replies also.

Well, it's not an email so it doesn't matter anyway.

From what I've read, these units are the mutt's nuts & probably the
best DVD recorders on the market. I was interested in getting a
RDR-HX900, but i've seen another Sony machine that includes a digital
tuner (freeview), but that one doesn't have a HDD. So, HDD or
Freeview for me? Decisions decisions....

I've that dilemma too, but an additional issue for me is the lack of USB 2
inputs (on all machines AFAIK), I want to connect a satellite set top box
as well as Freeview. The HDD recorders have DV inputs but I don't think
they would be of any use for digital TV set top boxes.
I'm wondering about the implementation Freeview on the Sony 500 model, is
it up to scratch?
My impression of a JVC Freeview product is that Freeview is seen as a low
volume country specific market that just doesn't justify the design
investment for worldwide market products. They want to be in the market
with a 'me too' product to retain their market share, but the product lets
down their reputation.

That's something I'm worried about. I'm sure it will get reviewed at
some point. Can't buy it for 6 months, ain't got the cash. Maybe
they'll be a few more on the market by then, perhaps one with Freeview
AND HDD.

Just been informed of this link which is very useful and probably will be
all you need to know. Unfortunately it is not quite the bit of kit that it
first appears to be.... let down by a few left out editing functions. Big
shame
