Does anybody know if the knew Sony 200disc DVD player (model
DVP-CX850) is Macrovision disabled?
The unit is for sale at the following URL but they don't list a
multiregion price (although they do in their magazine advert), and I
was wondering if a multiregion mod chip also eliminates Macrovision,
or if that is an additional 'modification' ?

What sort of price are they going for region free?

I want to buy one of these but, watch out for some of these internet
sites, when you try to contact by telephone you can never get through, I've
tried for days before Christmas to get through to the AV Store and
Techtronics and all I got was continuous engaged tones
do they really exist?
if it goes wrong who do you turn to, especially with a multiregion mod!
Don't get me wrong I buy lots of thing over the net CD's DVD's Food Shopping
etc but find a store with a real shop and real people you can talk to! There
are plenty in HIFI mags What Video & TV etc
Answering your question there are various mods, you need to check out fully
what is covered, at the moment although several stores say they have these
machines in stock most don't, take AV store for example, when you hit their
web page they show the DVP CX850D in stock but when you click on it to get
further info delivery is 2 to 3 weeks HA!
I have found two stores which who are working on the chips (apparently, NO
ONE HAS THESE YET) to multiregion this player, once I have secured mine I'll
be happy to let you know who they are (sorry, I need mine first)
You need a chip that will :-
1 Disable Macrovision
2 Make the player multiregion Auto or selectable from remote
3 Not disable any RGB outputs
4 Skip the FBI warning on region one disc's
