Ones that don't cost an arm and a leg and have a knob on the controller so
one can tell where its pointed?
The old Stolle ones were perfectly adaquate with the bearing, but seem to
be no longer made.

Don't know about aerials, but you can get ones for US equivalent, in the
UK: <https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=antenna+rotator&tbm=shop>.

The difficulty may be finding one of low enough specification to be
affordable, as the market is mainly for amateur radio.

and commercial uses generally. Lots of sources already investigated, but the
cheap ones tend to be'pre owned' on Ebay, and the new ones start at over 300
quid, for 'light duty' types.
This is silly, it would have almost made sense to have keep hold of my
two old Stolles and got them refurbished, though I was told the naff 'tin
gear's assemblies could not be replaced and this was the main bit that wore
out.
Sounds like an opening for some new person to buy the rights and start
making these again.

Maybe I should instead get the transmitter sites to move around me?

I get the feeling nobody is taking this seriously, I wonder why?
The Stolle ones were sold by Jbeam and under the Archer brand, by Tandy.

There are a number available but they do not come cheap! This site shows
some though most are intended for larger amateur radio antennas.

You could always phone J. Burkitt in Lincoln to see if they have any
decent old ones around at a reasonable price:

Trump.

I'm still a bit miffed over the lack of a cheap rotator though. Looks like
many are overpriced.
There are some there at over 2 grand, probably rotate a double decker bus
with that one.

I suppose when we used to buy rotators in the 1970s and pay £80 it was
about the same as buying one now and paying £400, and there's plenty
available at that sort of price.

Look on the Practical Wireless website for contact details and as the editor
what's on the market.

There's irony for you. Despite him using it more than the rest of us
put together, I bet Bill doesn't know what the Armstrong method is.

You bet wrong. Wasn't there an American called Armstrong who
more-or-less invented FM? And aren't there a lot of hairy-arsed radio
hams who have a tall mast that reached right down to the ground, this
mast being held by brackets that allow free rotation and having a side
arm at a convenient height for pushing, and a G cramp or some such thing
to lock the mast off when it's windy? Of course there are such people. I
was once one, but for TV Dxing not for hamming.

They are satellite dish rotators doubt if they'd go the full 360
degrees..

That don't look to bad might get one of they for old time sake, used to
have one - loved the noises the radio made whilst it was turning;)...

However it does beg a question as to why might you need one these days
as TV is hardly different one area to another and radio much the same..

Not to mention all the regional varianst available on satellite that is
cheaper and simpler. Unless you want to DX.
